ISC BIND BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain) is an implementation of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocols and provides an openly redistributable reference implementation of the major components of the Domain Name System, including: a Domain Name System server (named) a Domain Name System resolver library tools for verifying the proper operation of the DNS server The BIND DNS Server is used on the vast majority of name serving machines on the Internet, providing a robust and stable architecture on top of which an organization's naming architecture can be built. The resolver library included in the BIND distribution provides the standard APIs for translation between domain names and Internet addresses and is intended to be linked with applications requiring name service. Current release BIND Version 8.2.2 patchlevel 5 (Released November 12th, 1999) If you are running a version of BIND prior to 8.2.2 patchlevel 3, we recommend you upgrade to the current version for security reasons. If you are running BIND 8.2.2-P3, and compiled it yourself, we recommend you upgrade to 8.2.2-P5 to correct a named-xfer problem. If your vendor-provided BIND is 8.2.2-P3, you should consult their documentation and confirm that the named-xfer bug has been patched. If you are running BIND 4.x.x, and cannot upgrade to BIND 8.x, we recommend you use BIND Version 4.9.7 rather than any lower 4.x releases. It is possible to obtain older versions of BIND via ftp; however, they are provided for reference only and should not be used. Beta release The latest beta version is BIND 8.2.3 T6B, released July 20, 2000. More information is available in the announcement. This is prerelease code and is not intended for production use. BIND Version 8.2.3 T6B (Released July 20, 2000) Support Contracts for ISC BIND ISC offers support contracts for a fee. Although ISC BIND is still available for no fee on the Internet, organizations desiring a higher level of support should purchase a support contract. The proceeds from the support contracts are used to fund the continued development of ISC BIND. DNS and BIND Training ISC is collaborating with Nominum, Inc. to offer expert training in DNS and BIND.
