Pass  Initial Boot 

The system successfully booted from the installation medium.

Kludge  Network Interface Card: 3Com 905c, Ethernet

In order to get the 3Com 905c network interface controller working, the following actions should be taken:
 
1. Obtain the file 3c59x.c, which may be downloaded from ftp://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/linux/drivers/
2. Run the following commands to compile the kernel module and place it in the proper location:
gcc -DMODULE -D__KERNEL__ -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O6 -c 3c59x.c
cp 3c59x.o /lib/modules/2.2.10/net

3. Add the line "alias eth0 3c59x" to /etc/conf.modules
4. From the KDE desktop menu, chose the following items: COAS - Network - Ethernet Interfaces
5. Set the PNP configuration to DHCP and then set Init at Boot Time to "enabled."

Pass  Disk Controller: IDE

The controller allowed effective communication with peripheral hardware.

 Engineer's Comments 

To enable support for the Soundblaster Live sound card, perform the following steps:
1. Download the latest driver source code snapshot from http://opensource.creative.com/snapshot.html
2. After extracting the archive file containing the source code, compile and install the driver according to the included README file.

In our original certification, a proprietary driver was required. The Open Source version of this driver was released after the certification of this system was completed. Therefore, the referenced driver or the above procedure have not been tested.

Pass  System Partitioning 

The fdisk successfully created the system partition.

Pass  System Installation 

The kernel was successfully copied to the hard disk and made bootable; all essential packages were installed. Select "install all packages" during setup in order to allow the kernel to be compiled in subsequent steps.

Kludge  Video Adapter: Diamond Viper 770

In order to get the Diamond Viper 770 adapter working, the following actions should be taken:
1. Obtain the file RIVA-X-GLX-1.0-glibc-i386.tar.gz, which can be downloaded from: ftp://ftp1.detonator.nvidia.com/pub/drivers/english/riva-tnt-tnt2-vanta/linux
2. Run the following command to extract the archive and place the X server in the proper location:
tar xzvf RIVA-X-GLX-1.0-glibc-i386.tar.gz
cd X-GLX-glibc-i386
cp XF86_SVGA /usr/X11R6/bin

3. Run the LISA configuration tool.
4. Choose the following menu items: System Configuration - Hardware Configuration - Choose X11 Server.
5. The video card was auto-probed and correctly identified with the resolution set to 1024 x 768 x 32bpp.
