General Info |
This library is a collection of troubleshooting-related freeware and shareware utilities. [In general, the Library does not include Apple updates and fixes, although some Apple utilities are listed.] All listings were updated as of August 15, 1999. After this date, each time a new file is added or an existing file is updated, the date of the addition or update will be appended to the listing. For many of the files, clicking on the link will take you to a web page (on another web site) from where the file can be downloaded. Where possible, the link is designed to take you to a page that will list the latest version of the utility, even if the information on MacFixIt has not yet been updated to include that version. In the remaining cases, the link is to a copy of the file maintained here at MacFixIt. [To be gradually implemented over the next few weeks: If a file has a $ after its version number; this means it is Shareware. If a file has an F after its version number, this means it is Freeware. If no symbol is indicated, this means the file's status is not yet determined.] |

Let us know... |
If you know of a newer version of a file than the one listed here, please let us know (feedback@macfixit.com) so that we can update the Library. Similarly, if you know of any programs not listed here, that you would like to see added, let us know that as well. If you are the author of any program listed here and you would prefer that the program not be listed, please contact us. If you have trouble downloading any file or accessing any link, again let us know. We will try to fix it. In particular, note that downloads are accomplished as an http function (rather than ftp). In certain cases, depending upon your browser and how its MIMEs are set up, this may result in the download file appearing in a browser window as "text" rather than downloading to your hard drive. Let me know if this happens. |

Docs & Shareware Fees |
Almost every the utility listed here comes with its own Read Me file (or other form of documentation) that explains its use. For shareware, these files also contain information on how to register and pay appropriate shareware fees. Remember, if you decide to continue using shareware after a reasonable try-out period, you are obligated to pay the requested fee. Registering shareware is the best way to ensure that great utilities such as these continue to be written. |

Miscellany |
Some of the older files in this library were inadvertently "binhexed" twice. This will be corrected over time, as files are updated. In the meantime, don't worry; the files will still "expand" correctly. Sad Macs, Bombs, & Other Disasters (the book) describes numerous freeware and shareware utilities. This Library contains all of these utilities, except for ones now considered obsolete. [Thanks to Brian Landau for his assistance in the redesign of this Library.] |
