For first-time visitors to this page, I own or use four different Macintosh computers and one MacClone:

• Power Macintosh 8500/120, upgraded with a PowerBoost Pro 225 card
• Power Computing's PowerBase 180
• Power Macintosh 7100/80
• Quadra 605
• PowerBook 3400c/180/CD

All of them are now running flawlessly on MacOS 8, the most stable operating system yet--I highly recommend it. I spend a lot of time on these computers--working, using online services and surfing the internet's world wide web. I also spend a lot of time helping others with their Macs.

For the month of May 1996, I experimented with offering to answer the first 50 questions of comparative novices who were having some difficulties with these or related Mac computers. I was pleasantly surprised--about 70% of the questions fit within the rules that I had established. I had fun and learned a few things so I decided to make this a permanent feature of my site.

The following rules apply. Please do not expect to get an answer if you don't fit within them.

Rules:

• Real novices only, please. Come on! If you know you have to use ResEdit, you're not a novice.
• Real questions. No tests, riddles or brain-teasers. I am offering to try to help some people and I do not need something just to occupy my time.
• Apple Computer and PowerComputing hardware only and fairly recent models, too (see above). I fondly remember my Apple ][e and Mac 128K but not how to use/fix them, especially with today's software and peripherals.
• Peripheral questions, except on video cards, network servers/software and printers.
• Software questions will be taken on Mac OS 8 and System 7 (especially System 7.5.3 or 7.5.5 or 7.6 or 7.6.1), CompuServe (my online service) and internet access applications.
