CASE STUDY
Summary
For an organization as large as the Boeing Co., standardizing on an office productivity suite is not a simple task. It is a decision that has long-term consequences for employee productivity, administrative procedures, and, ultimately, the company's bottom line. So it was only after careful consideration that a small group of IT managers within the company recommended that the company adopt Microsoft Office 2000 as its standard desktop productivity suite. For this group, the reasons were clear. Their evaluation has proven that Office 2000 lowers administrative costs with easier deployment and reduced support costs. At the same time, it increases user productivity through better help functions that will minimize the unproductive time users spend trying to resolve issues with their desktop machines. Office 2000 is also expected to provide easier Web-based communication and collaboration throughout the large, distributed, and heterogeneous enterprise.
