Office 2000 provides new tools that make it easier and less costly to deploy and support Office across language boundaries. The benefits are the result of the development of a single worldwide executable file for each application, and the option for organizations to configure the Office user interface in multiple languages using Office 2000 with MultiLanguage Pack.
This page helps you take advantage of these new benefits. The first step is to choose between the two basic options now available to you:
- Office 2000 with MultiLanguage Pack. This option eases multilingual deployment because there are little to no differences in setup routines, registry entries, and component configurations for users who work in different languages.
- Localized versions of Office 2000. These versions provide the highest level of localized functionality, including Microsoft PhotoDraw™ 2000 business graphics software, Microsoft Publisher 2000, and other features and content that cannot be localized in the MultiLanguage Packs.

Office 2000 with MultiLanguage Pack
The Office 2000 with MultiLanguage Pack option simplifies deployment in large multinational organizations. Thanks to the worldwide executable file noted above, IT administrators only need to create one custom installation for users in all countries. Also, the Pack includes the Office 2000 Proofing Tools described below, enabling users to create and edit documents in more than 30 languages. Localized Versions of Office 2000
The option to license localized versions of Office (such as Office 2000 English Edition and Office 2000 Spanish Edition) may be best if you need completely localized functionality and the additional content that comes with some fully localized versions. Each localized version includes at least two sets of appropriate proofing tools for the languages you are likely use most (for instance, the Norwegian version includes Norwegian, German, and English proofing tools). To expand that support to more than 30 languages, you can add the Office 2000 Proofing Tools CD described below to any localized version. Office 2000 Proofing Tools
Scheduled to become available in December 1999 as an add-on to any Office 2000 suite or individual application, the Office 2000 Proofing Tools CD provides proofing tools for more than 30 supported languages—rather than the two to four sets of additional language tools in each localized version. Proofing tools such as spelling checker, grammar and style checker, thesauri, AutoCorrect, and more, enable users to create and edit documents in any of the supported languages. (Note that not all proofing tools are available for all languages.) The Proofing Tools are included in Office 2000 with MultiLanguage Pack, so they only need to be ordered individually for localized versions of Office 2000.
