Configuring Proxy Server for SQL Server Replication over the Internet
*
WHITE PAPER

Summary
Thanks to the replication technology in SQL Server, organizations can move data and stored procedures quickly and reliably among corporate, branch, and mobile offices. They can copy information, move it to different locations, and synchronize it automatically to give all copies the same data values. With this freedom, however, comes a heightened concern for the security of the database. The concern is greatest when information is copied between databases that are connected by the Internet. Now, organizations can eliminate this risk through a combination of SQL Server 7.0 and Microsoft Proxy Server. This paper explains the importance of security requirements when designing distributed applications and outlines the steps for undertaking safe replication over the Internet today.

  • Configuring Network Topology
  • Security Overview
  • Configuring Proxy Server
  • Configuring the Publisher/Distributor
