Job Location:
Reston, Virginia
Responsibilities/Duties:
Help clients isolate and solve problems on large-scale networks, and
propose alternative designs to meet customer requirements. Develop and
optimize network designs using performance monitoring, assessment, and
leading-edge modeling and simulation tools as well as data provided by
network management systems. Become familiar with a wide variety of tools
and understand how to select the best ones for a specific project. Propose
engineering changes to networks to improve performance and develop network
upgrade plans to facilitate future growth. Document findings, prepare
implementation plans, and be able to brief results to senior mangers and
clients.
Qualifications/Experience:
Requires excellent understanding of data communications protocols and
standards such as TCP/IP, ETHERNET, SNMP, FDDI, ATM and Frame Relay and
Windows 95/98, NT and UNIX operating systems. Must be able to work
multiple projects simultaneous and be able to balance workload
effectively. REQUIREMENTS: 4 year degree in CS or Engineering. Minimum
four years experience in the computer/communications field. Must be
knowledgeable on the principles of network design, and have hands-on
experience with routers, switches, hubs used in LAN/WAN networks. Prior
experience with taking network measurements and interpreting results.
Outstanding problem solving skills are necessary. Must be able to
interface with a wide variety of customers in a positive, professional
manner. Some domestic travel required. DESIRED: Cisco and Microsoft
certification a plus. Some experience with network management systems
helpful.
