It's a hot, sticky day in June, and the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue is packed to the rafters. Purple Jazz stuff and MVP hats decorate the landscape. There's definitely a buzz in this place... where else can you run into the legendary Dr. J doing a little Saturday shopping?

Fans of all sizes are staking out positions along the three-story spiral ramp that snakes up from the half-court at the bottom of the Store. The Mailman, Karl Malone, is in the house, in town to receive his second MVP trophy from NBA Commissioner David Stern. And this time, fans are invited to join in!

The Store is in "event mode." The half-court is set with a podium and surrounded by cameras. In the middle of it all, the heavy sculpted bronze MVP Trophy looks like it was trying to flee it's pedestal, anxious to fly back to it's new home in Utah, in the care of the big guy.

Upstairs, tucked away in an interview room, Karl reminisces for the cameras. He talks about growing up in Louisiana, fortunate to have the support of his family, and what it's like to be one of only nine NBA players to win the MVP twice. "I'm in awe of all those guys and what they did for the game. I'm in amazing company," he admitts.
