Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) | ||||||

![]() ATM offers potential benefits for NATO communications, notably as the basis for a single integrated backbone that can carry voice, data and videoconferencing traffic both over a forward link to deployed forces as well as within a local headquarters. Projects CA, CS and CT are contributing to a division-wide ATM project that is evaluating and demonstrating the potential of ATM for military communications. The primary result of this activity will be the specification of cost effective network architectures and the associated evolutionary steps, that meet evolving military operational requirements for the dissemination of information between and within NATO headquarters.
