Help With Archives and Finding Past Articles

The New York Times on the Web offers several options for finding past Times articles:

The Archive contains New York Times articles back to 1996. Searching and summaries are free; the full text of archive articles can be purchased with these pricing options: 25 articles for $19.95 (articles can be purchased over a 1 year period), 10 articles for $9.95 (articles can be purchased over a 1 year period), four articles for $5.50 (articles can be purchased over a 1 month period) or single articles for $2.50 each.

Photographs, charts, and other illustrations are not included in the text-only archives. For information about ordering photo reproductions from The New York Times, write to photosales@nytimes.com. The Archive Help Center contains an overview for first-time users, answers to frequently asked questions, and tips on searching.

On the Search page, for no charge you can search the contents of today's Times, as well as the past week of major news sections, plus selected past articles from The Times on the Web, including film and book reviews, and more.

For articles prior to 1996, we recommend Lexis-Nexis, a research service which offers Times articles back to 1980. For information about ordering back copies and other sources for articles before 1980 see Other Sources for Past Times Articles.
