Our
Time Stories is a collaboration which began more than forty years
ago, in the 1950s, when Tom and Gary first met as junior college newspaper
editors. They became close friends and spent a significant part of their youth
in a San Francisco which promised young men and women the kinds of adventure
they were looking for.
Those adventures
included forays in the Sierras along the John Muir trail, a wild few days
on the Pacific Ocean, freight train rides, poetry, theatre, and writing
journals, letters, poems, short stories, novels.
They also entered
into their first major collaboration together they wrote an experimental
novel, Under the Ball. Each created major characters and though
their book was never published, their characters lived!
Our Time Stories
is their latest adventure.
They married in the
1960s, families followed, Gary going on to study architecture, becoming a
furniture designer, becoming a technical writer in the newly developing field
of software design; Tom teaching preschool, traveling to Europe, living there
for five years, becoming a sports editor for a small newspaper on California’s
central coast.
Through that time
they maintained their friendship.
In the early 1970s,
Gary began a grand, sweeping, visionary novel called In 2020.
Significantly, in current version of In 2020, he is merging
characters from Under the Ball to create a mosaic-like saga
that stretches from the fifties to the twenties and beyond.
Tom’s Dancing
Backwards kicks off a series of Kyle Walker mysteries. The second
book in the series is already completed and a third is in the first-draft,
planning stages.
Gary and Tom can
often be seen around the Bay Area, shamelessly advertising themselves by wearing
their site sweat shirt, logo included.
