A red Swiss Army Knife Typhon, formerly called the Portable Unix Toolkit, is a generalized toolkit of computer utilities. The Professional Edition contains 50 programs for text processing, file and directory processing, controlling system commands, etc. The Enterprise Edition contains 77 programs for disk space management, system monitoring, performance analysis, configuration analysis and security. (The Enterprise Edition is available for Unix only and some of its programs work only on the Solaris, AIX or HP-UX operating systems.) The Demo Edition contains 11 programs; it can be downloaded for free. Both the Professional Edition and the Enterprise Edition include login environment files for the Korn shell, bash and C shell and all the programs in the Demo Edition. The Master Edition (available for Unix only) includes the Professional Edition and the Enterprise Edition for a total of 106 programs.
Features:
  • Searchable manual pages in standard Unix format.
  • Completely open source - you can modify any program to suit the needs of your network.
  • Sixty-day evaluation with full refund if not satisfied.
  • Fast installation script that includes a portable build verification test.
  • On-line tutorial for first-time users.
  • OS-independent installed image that can be NFS mounted for use across a network of heterogeneous Unix and Windows systems.
  • Free demo of 10% of the programs, with no expiration.

  • Use a single set of Korn shell, bash or C shell login environment files in a heterogeneous Unix/Windows network.
  • Remove all lines containing a text string from all files in a directory tree, skipping non-text files.
  • List all subdirectories in one or more directories, including symbolic links to directories.
  • List the largest files or directories in a directory tree.

System Requirements
You can use Typhon on any Unix system that is derived from System V Unix, BSD Unix or Linux. The system must have either the Korn shell (ksh - 1988, 1993 versions supported), the desktop Korn shell (dtksh - all versions supported) or the public-domain Korn shell (pdksh - version 5.2.14 or higher supported). (We recommend using the 1993 Korn shell, which can be downloaded for free, or dtksh.) The Professional Edition and Demo Edition of Typhon will also run on Windows 2000, NT, 98 or 95 in conjunction with UWin, AT&T Research's Unix for Windows product. Although most of Typhon is written in the Korn shell, there are a few Perl programs. Version 5 of Perl is supported.
