Maintenance Release
Beginning with the IRIX 6.5 major operating system release, a new
software release process delivers IRIX updates to you in a more
easily managed and consistent fashion. In this new process, an
IRIX release is a family of releases anchored with the initial
major operating system release. To understand more of the new
software release process, please visit Understanding the
"Release Family".

SGI provides three types of patches to its customers.
Security patches that address security vulnerabilities.
Recommended/required patch sets for installation on your system.
Fix On Fail patches for specific problems that are often configuration or
application specific.
Security patches and the recommended patch sets are free to all customers.
Fix on Fail patches are currently available to customers who have purchased
a software support contract.
