Concept Kitchen manufactures accessories and software for PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). PDADash.com was a popular site providing news and information relating to PDAs. With Steem's help, Concept Kitchen has expanded and enhanced PDA Dash to create Smaller.com.

"All aspects of Steem's design talents came into play", tells Tyson Liotta, Lead Designer at Steem. "When we were first approached by Concept Kitchen for the PDADash redesign project, they hadn't yet chosen a new name for the site. It was obvious that in addition to creating a new look for the site, we needed an improved logo and branding. Also, interface design had to be planned out carefully, since the new site would offer expanded shopping capabilities for both software and hardware".

Once the Smaller.com name was chosen by Concept Kitchen, Steem created an original logo treatment that could be used for print, as well as on the web. Then a new site appearance was made to match the logo and the friendly attitude Concept Kitchen was looking to convey to Smaller.com site visitors.

Care was taken in interface design. The new Smaller.com site would contain much more information and commerce than the previous PDADash property. Steem created an intuitive design for navigation to make finding information and products on the site easy.

Smaller.com sets a new standard for web sites in the PDA Marketplace.

Steem Creates Mobile Content for Palm OS and Windows CE devices using AvantGO.
Steem can help companies publish mobile versions of their web sites for viewing on Palm OS or Windows CE handheld computers.

Using the AvantGO.com service handheld computer owners can receive free news and information from thousands of web sites. Information is updated when users dock their handheld computer at their desktop machine.

Steem enables companies to create AvantGO friendly versions of their web sites, for handheld viewing. When the main web site is updated with new information, the AvantGO version reflects those changes.

AvantGO publishing services can be combined with Steem's solutions for Mobile Phone publishing to create an even larger presence for online companies.

Steem created the DevelopBusiness.com site from the ground up. All design and programming tasks were handled in house. "The web-based intranet was the most difficult aspect of the project", explains Don Rude, Lead Programmer at Steem. "The fact that we were dealing with multiple users, multiple companies, web based administration and time zones from around the world made for a very complex system. However, I was confident in my programming staff's ability to find the optimum solution. We designed a fast and flexible database back end that would scale well with future growth. Using this database design and a robust SQL server, the project came together smoothly".
