Canlink Interactive Technologies
Canlink's SecureCommerceSuite provides a secure robust, scaleable solution
to electronic commerce on the Internet. Canlink's flagship product SecureMarket
Pro, an on-line ordering system has been re-written utilizing the Java Servlets
API and the Java Web Server. The use of Sun's robust API for server-side
java, Java Servlets, and the Java Web Server has enabled Canlink's e-commerce
applications to transform the Web into a high-performance environment for
mission-critical applications on the corporate intranet or over the internet.
When asked the benefit of the Java Servlets, Canlink's Director Dave
Hallett replied:
"Not only has the use of Sun's Java given us a cross-platform application
for both Solaris and NT Servers, the use of Java Servlets API improves performance,
security and scaleability over traditional CGI programming approaches. Canlink
fully endorses the use of Sun's Java Server and Java Servlet API!"

Centralogic Corporation
"Centralogic Corporation is an enthusiastic supporter of the Java
Servlet API. Our experience has been that programs written in Java take
very little time to debug, often performing as expected the first time they
are run. This factor alone makes Java a software developer's dream come
true. The Java Servlet API brings this tremendous strength to the server.
With the additional ability to reuse previously-written cross- platform
Java objects, the Java Servlet API becomes an obvious choice for server-side
development. I would encourage anyone to try it."

Convoke Communications
"With the Servlet architecture, I may instantiate objects over the
lifetime of the web server itself, drastically increasing the overall transaction
processing efficiency and creating opportunities for optimization in my
code not available with other web servers. Choosing a combination of Java
Applets and Java Servlets for client and server code has eliminated compatibility
problems that my team would have been unable to support using traditional
systems.
"The Servlet API permits me to use the same programming objects
in both client and server contexts at the same time; essentially write once,
run everywhere.
"Initially sub-contracted to provide database-driven web pages for
2000 retail stores in 15 shopping malls across Canada, we have extended
the design to include kiosk access to the same data, including news and
information on store sales and events. We are now developing the concept
even further by designing a customer guidance system that might prove useful
in wireless form."

Educational Use of Java Web Server and Java Servlets
"I would like to let you know that we have started to deploy 15
Java-based real-time weather servers at local k-12 schools in the Santa
Clara, Ca. valley. These 15 machines (and we expect more) are 486-100 machines
running the Java Web Server 1.0.1 together with a servlet that will provide
realtime weather at these schools. Users can log on to each machine with
a web browser and check out the weather conditions at each school.
"This enterprise is underwritten by MASTEP (http://www.mastep.sjsu.edu)
which is a non-profit NSF funded educational program. Support is also provided

Enable Belgium
"At Enable, we cannot afford to respond with a "not possible"
to a potential customer and with the opportunities offered by the internet
evolving with the break neck pace it has, it is a near impossible task to
master all the various web server API. But since using the Servlet SDK,
our standard response has been, "no problem, you choose your operating
system, your web server, your database, your what ever, we will Enable it",
thanks to the wide spread support Servlets enjoy in our industry."

Gefion Software
"Gefion software endorses the Servlet API as the best approach yet
to standards based server-side processing. Solutions based on the
Servlet API, such as Gefion software's InstantOnline Basic,
can be used with any of the major web servers and application
servers, on any platform with a Java VM. Since Servlets can use
all other Java APIs, such as JDBC, JNDI and RMI, Servlet based
solutions offer unprecedented flexibility and scalability, as well
as great performance through threading and persistent data.

"Live Software is a strong endorser of the Java Servlet API -- an
application programming interface that lets system administrators and developers
dynamically extend the capabilities of servers. This API is a milestone
in the industry. For the first time, developers can have an extensible,
reusable, object-oriented tool that lets them deliver new functionality
across multiple platforms. As a replacement for today's disparate CGI solutions,
servlets are poised to become the ubiquitous solution for extending servers.
Servlets give the developer the ability to develop on one platform and deploy
on another. Live Software is a big supporter of the Java Servlet API and
is committed to Java Servlet technology through its free servlet engine,
JRuntm, and through its line of servlet
products."

New Atlanta Communications
"The Java Servlet API has several compelling advantages over traditional
CGI and C/C++ web server extension APIs. Servlets easily outperform CGIs
and Java provides much better scalability than Perl scripts. The Java Servlet
API is simpler than proprietary web server extension APIs while matching
their functionality, and Java servlets are inherently more robust and reliable--bugs
in a servlet can't crash the web server as easily as bugs in a C/C++ extension
can. In almost every case the Java Servlet API is a better choice than CGI
or proprietary C/C++ APIs for implementing web server extensions.
"At New Atlanta Communications, we believe that universal availability
is essential to acceptance of the Java Servlet API as an industry standard.
Therefore, we have two goals for our ServletExectm
product line: to support the full feature set of the Java Servlet API as
defined by the JavaWebServer, and to implement this support for every major
commercial web server and platform. The initial release of ServletExec adds
Java Servlet API support to Microsoft IIS, Netscape Fasttrack &
Enterprise servers on Windows NT, and W*API-compatible Mac OS web servers.
We intend to quickly follow-up with support for Netscape servers on the
major Unix variants: Solaris, HP-UX, Irix, and AIX. We'll then turn our
attention to other web servers such as Novell IntranetWare and Lotus Domino.
"We're very excited about the future of server-side Java and the
Java Servlet API. We expect that in the very near future the use of Java
in server-side applications is going to exceed its use on the client."

"The Java Servlet API has proven a powerful and open tool that has
accelerated our development process and raised customer satisfaction. One
of our larger customers was recently involved in a merger which caused radical
changes to the target delivery environment. The portability of Servlets
as well as JDBC and the rest of the Java platform turned what should have
been a disaster into a non-event. Servlets made us look like heros and saved
us development heartache. On top of everything else they run like a top
under Linux! who could ask for more?"

Novell, Inc.
"Novell was the first to license the Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
for the Server. Fully embracing the Java Servlet API is a natural extension
to our vision of Java---it helps shift the focus from desktop computing
to network computing. The Servlet API provides an industry-wide means of
running business logic on servers. We've got a lot of servers out there.
Our initial support for servlets will be available by the end of October.
Servlets will enable a new breed of true cross-platform multi-tier solutions
such as server-based administration applications and processes that can
query databases, dynamically build HTML pages, and much more. We obviously
believe Java on the server is very important and servlets bring more functionality
and ease of development to the server." Chris Stone, Sr. VP Strategy,

access to your computer information using any device connected to the Internet.
Visto BriefcaseT service enables you to synchronize, manage, update, and
work securely with your email, address books, bookmarks and other computer
files. It's a virtual hard drive on the Web. This online service has built

Visto Corporation is based on industry standard Internet technologies.
We use the Java Servlet API for programming the server application logic.
The main advantage of using the Java Servlet API is programmer productivity.
The Java Servlet API is flexible and extensible. It is backed by the power
of the JDK APIs like JDBC and third party APIs like NDC. We are in the process
of achieving the 100% pure Java certification.
Java Servlets are portable so we are not tied to a particular web server.
However we are using the JavaWebServer because it easy to administer, high
performance, secure and scalable.
To summarize, we are very happy with our decision to use the Java Servlet
API and JavaWebServer technology."
