Benefits Statement!

Chat is the heart and soul of the Talk City community. Through chat you can make new friends and keep in touch with old friends. You can laugh, cry, share, learn, love...people have even married folks they've met in Talk City chat rooms. Chatting is just a small part of what you can do as a Talk Citizen. Here is a suggested list of activities for becoming a "Power User" at Talk City.
	Register Now that you've chatted as a guest, register as a Talk Citizen. Registering will reserve a name just for you, which you can use every time you chat. Registering also gives you a free email address , and allows you to start building your own home page.
	Build a starter home page Building a starter home page gives you a "profile" that other chatters can view to find out more about you. More importantly, it gives you a home page that you can customize. A home page is your chance to publish to the world to tell them about yourself, your hobbies, your rants and raves.
	Find rooms where you like to hang out There are literally thousands of rooms to choose from on Talk City, from rooms that users create for their own interests, to hosted rooms where people gather on a regular basis to visit their friends, discuss the news, or play games. It's tough being the new kid on the block at first, but you'll find that most Talk Citizens are friendly folk who will enjoy having you at the party!
	Learn the lingo Chatting can be a strange experience at first...what does LOL mean? BRB? Why do people type strange things like :-) and ;-0> ? Learning the lingo can be a lot of fun--some of the "emoticons" will have you ROFL!
	Check out Talk City's special events Most Talk City chat rooms are filled with people talking to each other, like at a party. But others are "auditorium" events, where special guests take questions from the audience about all sorts of interesting topics. Recent guests have included Mark McGuire and Rosie O'Donnell.
	Customize your email settings Talk City email can do more than just send and receive. You can customize your email "signature", keep "spam" out of your mailbox, integrate your mail with ICQ(TM), even forward mail from other email accounts.
	Visit a discussion board Discussion boards, sometimes called message boards or bulletin boards, are another way of connecting with your fellow Talk Citizens. As opposed to the sometimes chaotic nature of chat, discussion boards allow people to post messages, and others to comment, ask questions, or raise new topics. The discussions can go on for months, as opposed to the real time experience of chat. Discussion boards are usually less social than chat, and are great places to go to discuss serious topics with people on an ongoing basis.
	Find love in the Talk City personals If you're chatting in order to find the love of your life, the Talk City personals is the way to go. Search or browse ads, many with photos, or place an ad of your own. There are thousands of people, from all over the world, registered with Talk City personals.
	Experience online concerts, movies and "avatar" chats through On Now There's even more to do online that chat. On Now, Talk City's sister site, is a guide to most exciting events on the web, including audio and video broadcasts, or "webcasts". You can also find avatar chats, where the chat room looks like a comic book full of colorful characters chatting with each other. Like Talk City, On Now's listings have topics from silly to serious.
	Build a better home page Remember that home page you build back at step #2? By now you probably want to show your online friends what you look like, and what your kids look like, and what your dog looks like, by uploading photos to your home page. Then add a guestbook so your friends can comment on how cute your kids are. And add a counter so you can see how many people visit your page each day. Add animations and pictures from Talk City's clip art library, publish your kids' poems and their latest soccer scores. Using Talk City's Power Tools, you can create a home page to do all that, and more.
	Start your own chat room By now, you have a group of friends online, and have found chat rooms, events, discussions and forums for developing your own interests. Why not start a chat room of your own? Invite your friends to a chat room on a topic of your choice.
