Converting Files Between Different Versions of Office Software: A File Format Matrix
*
WHITE PAPER   October 1998

Summary
In organizations where users must convert documents between different versions of a program (such as between Microsoft Word 2000 and Word 6.0), help desk staff members often must spend time answering conversion-related questions. Much of the challenge when helping users lies in ensuring that they can access converters easily, and that help desk staff can locate information about conversions quickly. This paper presents a series of charts for fast reference on exactly how each Office application converts documents between other versions of that application. The charts also show which conversions require the installation of a converter.
