Intel has scrubbed the initial design for its forthcoming Solano chip set in favor of an improved I/O scheme.
The initial version to ship will be the Solano-2. It is slated to sample next month and enter volume production next quarter -- about the same schedule as the original Solano. The redesigned product will still be called the Intel 815.
Sources expect the second-generation Solano to contain USB version 2.0 technology, and a 100MB ATA-100 hard drive interface.
