About ASWedit HTML editor
ASWedit is a commercial, comprehensive and easy to use HTML and text editor
for X Window System and Motif. It offers three independent modes:
a plain text editing mode and two context-sensitive, validating modes for
authoring of HyperText Markup Language documents as used
on the Internet and intranets.
NOTE: this document describes the previous versions of ASWedit. A newer, much improved version 3.0 is available.

The version 2.5 released on 14 May 1996 introduced or
dramatically improved the following:
- Context-sensitive HTML 2x and HTML 3x modes;
only tags valid in the current context are available.
- Support in our HTML 2x and HTML 3x extended modes for the latest
IETF drafts and some other more stable proposals (new tables,
client-side image maps, form-based file upload and Java applets),
and the widely used Netscape specific elements, including Frames;
support based on our own DTD's that include all the extensions.
- Creation of correct HTML 2x or HTML 3x documents (according to
the extended DTD's).
- Special link dialog allowing creation of hyperlinks and the
destination anchors in one step.
- Text to table and to list converters.
- Table of contents generator.
- HTML tag flexible report tool.
- Ready to use and test Form examples.
- Color selection from a user definable list.
- Spell checking that skips HTML tags.
- Comprehensive context-sensitive, hypertext help with topics
on a selected tag and edited attribute (version related).
- Split window functionality.

The version 2.0 released on 29 December 1995 introduced the following:
Support for unlimited number of templates.
Six fully customizable toolbars instead of one.
Context-sensitive click-on help.
Dialog for selecting relative and absolute URI's.
Fly-by hints for icons in the toolbars.
and other useful features like:
- Customizable colors for different HTML tags.
- HTML project options.
- Keyboard shortcuts for the most common HTML tags.
- User definable, mode dependent, key bindings.
- Filters to convert between Latin 1 characters
and their entities (extendible).
- Pop-up menus for toolbars, status line
and HTML attribute editors.
- Support for the latest IETF drafts and some other more
stable proposals in the HTML 3 mode:
- new tables (including text to table convert command)
- client-side image maps
- form-based file upload
- Java applets
- New indexing scheme for Filters and Commands.
- Maximum of user definable Filters and Commands increased from 10 to 20.
- Graphical option menus for some attribute editors (e.g. for align).

ASWedit is sold on a per machine basis. The number of users that can run
the software on the licensed computer is unlimited.
A license is required for each computer ASWedit will be run on.
ASWedit comes with an extensive, context-sensitive hypertext on-line help
as well as printable:
User's Guide, HTML 2 and HTML 3 extended reference manuals.
The license includes free minor product upgrades by FTP for a period
of one year.

- Internet FTP.
For fast delivery and no shipping charges the software is available via
FTP from our ftp delivery server. With this option you do not receive the printed
documentation (nothing is shipped), but you can download it in the form
of Postscript files.
- Diskette or tape.
The software is distributed in tar format on a 3.5 inch UNIX diskette
or on a tape (1/4 inch, 4 mm DAT or 8 mm tape). The installation notes are included.
