Amazon.com The REX-3 is the ultimate in compact design, heralded as the world's smallest connected organizer. It stores thousands of memos, to-do tasks, names, addresses, and more in a PDA the size of a credit card. The REX-3 connects to your PC through a docking station (included) via the PC's serial port or by inserting the REX-3 directly into a Type II PC card slot if your PC is a laptop. The TrueSync CD-ROM provides software to manage tasks on your PC and synchronize them with the REX-3. Setting up the REX-3 itself is easy--just insert the batteries and follow the REX-3's setup wizard. You navigate through the REX-3's six organizer applications with five front-mounted push buttons. The applications are Calendar, Contacts, Memos, To Do, Time Zones (dual-clock alarm), and Preferences. Unfortunately, you cannot enter names, phone numbers, or appointments directly through the REX-3's keys; instead, you must use your PC for data entry and then synchronize. However, the menu-driven user interface is reasonably intuitive, and the printed documentation is easy to follow. If small size is the most important feature you're seeking in a PDA, then the REX-3 is your best choice. Pros: - Amazingly small
- Great value, low price
- Can connect to a PC through a Type II PC slot or a serial port
- Includes docking station
Cons: - No backlight
- Must enter data through a PC

An electronics enthusiast from Portland, Oregon , October 1, 1999 Everyone should own a REX I hate PDA's and Organizers and Address books, and being organized in general. I bought my REX because it was small, cheap, and because I thought I could give it to my daughter if I didn't like it. It liked the way it connected to my PC without me doing anything hard, I don't even know why I writing this I can't usually be bothered. Once I started using the REX I found I couldn't do without it! I think it has to be my best investment of 1999. (c) J.P.Emmerson An electronics enthusiast from Marietta, Georgia , September 30, 1999 The first electronic organizer to challenge my Day-Timer! The Palms and other electronic organizers never impressed me--too hard to input data, too expensive, not quite small enough. My trusty Day-Timer was smaller, more convenient, and cheaper. But the Rex changed all that. It's easy to use--the data goes into my laptop Outlook application, without any of those clunky styli or miniature keyboards. Synchronization takes literally a few seconds. (Note: if you use a laptop, you don't need the optional cradle). The batteries last about 6 months. And the thing is so small that I can slip it into a shirt or jacket pocket. This is technology I can use! Christopher Riley, riley@vol.net from Hong Kong , September 15, 1999 Convenient, easy to use, makes user more efficient As a part-time trainer in Time Management I'm always looking for better softwares and simpler yet powerful solutions for controlling one's work and personal life. I've always come back to Sidekick which is effectively the software that goes with Rex (or Rex Pro). I load, sort, manipulate, all my info during the day and synchronise everytime I leave the office - then carry on making calls from my limo. Rex is infinitely simpler than the Palm and fits nicely into your vest pocket along with your cellular and a small notebook. In fact I've bought every one of my 18 office staff a Rex and oblige them to use it. We do not permit loose paper in our office nor inefficient work processes! khedron@techie.com from Mason, MI , September 9, 1999 REX does 95% of what any organizer should do. REX and its included Starfish organization software is a flexible and easy-to-use organizer. Only the requirement that all input be via computer to REX prevents me from giving it five stars. I use Schedule+ as my base organizer software and find that importing its data to the REX version of Starfish's TruSync software is simple and painless, as is the synchronizing download to REX. The current price of $50 for the REX, its docking station, and its software CD is an amazing bargain. The ability to load any text including whole stories and books (in aproximately 200K chunks)into the Memo section is a plus for me, as is the ability to use REX as a stand-alone alarm clock. I get around the update-from-computer-only restriction by keeping notes on the pad carried in the included leather case until I return to the office and enter them into Schedule+. I would recommend REX to anyone who already uses Schedule+, Sidekick, Outlook, or any other PC organizer software as a simple way to take your calendar, contact book, todo lists, and other notes and references with you in the smallest possible package! An electronics enthusiast from Mooresville, North Carolina , September 5, 1999 Overral a great thing to carry anywhere Great for traviling small. An electronics enthusiast from Glendale, California , August 26, 1999 Very useful because it's small enough to take everywhere I had been using an Apple Newton for a few years and wanted to upgrade to another personal organizer. The Rex is nice because it's incredibly small size makes it so easy to take with you. I keep in with me almost whereever I go and it's a great comfort to know that I have contact information with me everywhere. The memo storage feature is also nice: I use it to store various tidbits of information and it has replaced stacks of Post-It(tm) Notes all over my desk. I have a Toshiba Libretto that I mainly use to program the Rex. I also bought the docking station but it doesn't get much use because my main computer is short of serial ports. Two drawbacks: There is no input capability whatsoever; it must be programmed from software on a PC. The proprietary software that comes with it is the only way to program it without spending more money. At this price it would even be a worthy companion to a PalmPilot. An electronics enthusiast from Portland, Oregon , August 20, 1999 Great - especially with Excite I'm really pleased with this cute little product - and now you can synchronize with Excite it is even better. I can fill out meetings and notes and addresses at work, using Excite, and then they will be automatically put in my Rex when I get home. I lost my previous address book but because all my files are at home and on Excite I finally feel that my data is safe. The only problem is that some of the Rex's fields are too short for a long e-mail address. bader@hotbot.com from Seattle , August 17, 1999 I'm so happy I bought the Rex I used to cary around a leather address book with my phone #'s and notes and appointments, it was a pain in the butt to always carry a bulky leather address book around with you. For a long time a wanted a Palm Pilot but relized I didn't need to hold email and for the price for get it! I just wanted it because it sounds like a cool toy. Plus Palm Pilots are bulky and knowing myself I would probably loose it. With the REX I don't even notice its in my pocket. It holds everything my address book use to hold but organizes it much better. -So Nice
