The powers behind Mac OS

State-of-the-art technologies including Sherlock 2, AppleScript, QuickTime, ColorSync, Macintosh Runtime for Java and Speech raise Mac OS to a whole new level of intelligence.
Sherlock 2. In addition to its smart disk and file searching, Sherlock 2 is your Internet search detective and personal shopper. Scour the Internet for people, references, new Apple info and current news in a flash. Sherlock 2 also lets you shop and compare prices.

ColorSync. To keep colors from getting lost in translation from scanner (or digital camera) to screen to paper, ColorSync is the undisputed standard. It’s the most reliable way to show your true colors, every step of the way.

DVD. Support for the Universal Data Format is built in. Macintosh DVD-ROM can play the latest multimedia DVD disks and CD-ROM titles. Macintosh DVD-Video plays DVD movies. Macintosh DVD-RAM can read and write high-capacity DVD discs.

FireWire. The interface of choice for digital audio and video, FireWire support is included in Mac OS. Benefits include high speed, flexible connectivity and the ability to link up to 63 devices. At 400Mbps, it’s one of the fastest peripheral standards ever developed.

Multilingual support. Mac OS is world-ready. Input, display, edit and print a variety of Latin-based languages in addition to Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Indian, Japanese and more.
AppleScript. Almost as easy as making a wish, AppleScript lets you automate repetitive work, and it performs up to five times faster than before. All kinds of new things are scriptable—printing, Sherlock 2, ColorSync and network configuration.

Macintosh Runtime for Java. Bringing the cross-platform strengths of Sun’s Java language to the Macintosh, MRJ lets you run today’s real-world Java applications and Java applets within a web browser or the Apple Applet Runner.

Digital Video. With built-in Mac OS support, the moving image is now as easy to use as a picture or a sound. It’s readily available for your entertainment, documentation, professional communication or personal expression.

OpenGL. Developed by Silicon Graphics, this industry-standard 3D graphics architecture lets developers harness the power of hardware acceleration to thrust Mac games into the realm of professional-quality rendering, with complex textures and special effects.

FontSync. To ensure that the fonts on a computer or output device match the fonts in a document, FontSync analyzes all aspects of your fonts (name, type, glyphs, metrics, layout). Includes AppleScripts that enable you to move documents among computers.
QuickTime. The Apple technology that makes video, sound, music, 3D and virtual reality come alive for Macintosh and Windows, QuickTime takes your multimedia capabilities to the next level—and the one beyond.

Speech. You don’t have to be a Star Trek fan to know that the computer of the future will talk, listen and understand. That computer of the future is the Apple Macintosh of today. Why spend your time typing when you can use Mac OS and Apple speech technology?

USB. Built in to Mac OS, USB combines the benefits of a multiplatform standard—lower cost, greater compatibility and a large number of available peripherals—with the more specific advantages of a very Apple-like blend of advanced functionality and flair.

Game Sprockets. This set of built-in technologies helps speed development of Mac games and ensures that they support a range of peripherals, offer stable performance and provide consistent high-quality, media-rich user experiences.
