Welcome to CoolStuff, Sun's new emerging technology program. This web site is for developers and technology users to download, test and use many ‘cool’, innovative, emerging technologies from Sun Microsystems, Inc. Developed but not released for commercial use, these golden nuggets of technology, code and concepts are now being made available to Sun's developer community. You may research, download and use the posted technologies, leveraging Sun’s innovation for your own needs, based on the associated license.

As part of the Sun Developer Network program, the CoolStuff program intends to provide developers a venue for influencing Sun R&D. You can discuss with and provide your valuable input to Sun's engineers, thus shaping the future of these technologies as well as future Sun products.

In the initial release of the CoolStuff program, you can view and experiment with several pieces of technology and read profiles on the Sun engineers that developed the technologies. Later this Summer, you can expect to interact more closely with Sun engineers and other developers through collaboration tools such as mailing lists and forums. The CoolStuff program web site is a java.net Federated site. This means that as community interest builds around a particular technology, it could potentially evolve into a project on java.net, thereby leveraging the community tools and resources.

We welcome and encourage community participation to help in realizing the vision of community-wide collaboration on Sun’s emerging technologies. Our approach of phased releases enables us to incorporate your feedback into our rollout plans and help evolve the CoolStuff program and this site in a continuing and meaningful way.
