Panasonic PV-DM2799
A TV with a VCR and DVD built-in!
Looking for a new movie station for the bedroom? Don't have room for several separates? Technophobic tendencies keeping you from dealing with wire knots? Well, Panasonic has released a product that should take the headache out of A/V equipment: PV-DM2799.
Firstly, this unit is not aimed at audio or videophiles. It will not display an image or create a sound as engrossing or deep as that $30,000.00 rig in the demo room of your local A/V boutique. But that is not the point of this unit. The idea is for someone to go out, spend less than a grand, go home, and plug the thing in. That's it. Setup could not be simpler. And yet you will then be able to watch TV, DVDs, plain old VHS tapes, listen to CDs, and play the radio-- all on a nicely sized 27-inch screen.
As you can see, the features are all pretty basic. Considering that this is all crammed into a space barely larger than a normal TV, these features become a bit more impressive.
As much as these all-in-one units turn me off, there is something nice about the ease with which they are operated and though out. It is also a sensible way to introduce DVD to folks tight on space or allergic to serious comparative shopping.
I don't think that this would be a good primary A/V component. However, this thing would probably be pretty comfortable in the bedroom or study.
-- M Wiley is sort of an all-in-one kind of guy.
