Chemical Existence Interview...
Posted by Ceglarski 13:51 EST, Friday November 26
Telefragged has interviewed Magnus Blikstad, Project Leader from the Half-Life MOD Chemical Existence. The interview includes 5 new screenshots of the MOD too. Here's a snip:
Tim: How did Red Genesis start and what made you start work on Chemical Existence?
Magnus: Chemical Existence was started long before the name Red Genesis came around, actually Chemical Existence was started about two years ago and Red Genesis was started only a couple of months ago.
What made me start CE? I don't know really, I had worked on a rather failed Quake 1 TC for awhile that I dropped and I needed a fresh start, the first incarnations of CE was born (using the quake2 engine at the time) and well... things just progressed from there I guess.

Kanon Ball Interview...
Posted by Ceglarski 11:19 EST, Friday November 26
The KanonZone has posted the first part of an interview conducted with John Holmes, Biz director from Primal Clarity Productions. Josh goes into a lot of detail surrounding the issues they faced in the development of KanonBall. This interview will be of notable interest to those developing games and mods with the HalfLife engine as he makes many pros and cons about its use. Here's a snip:
"Unlike a lot of the Half-Life Mods I have seen (not all) KanonBall incorporates almost completely new textures, skybox artwork, models, animations and sounds, but more significantly it really is a completely new kind of game. It is not Deathmatch in any incarnation. There are no guns, no killing and this really is unique to the first person genre. Creating it has presented more challenges than I think a DM mod would because the lessons learnt are almost always unique"

RS "R" debug key...
Posted by Ceglarski 11:12 EST, Friday November 26
Here's some interesting about pressing "R" during debug mode from the RS Retreat:
Thanks to Ron Grapevine for pointing out this undocumented debug key in RS that is very interesting. If you hit "R" on your keyboard during debug mode, it will bring up a heads-up display (HUD) that gives quite a lot of information about your character's position and properties relative to the environment around you - likely very helpful if you are doing weapon mods. To try it out, follow the following steps:
The following must be done in the action phase of Rogue Spear:
1) Hit the Enter key to bring up the text box at the bottom of the screen
2) In the text box, type in the word debugkeys, then press Enter
3) Hit F10 to switch from Normal mode to Debug mode
4) Hit "R" on your keyboard to bring up the HUD that will be at the center of your screen
5) Hit F10 again to switch Debug mode back to Normal mode to continue playing with the HUD

Team Fortress 2 Interviews...
Posted by Ceglarski 11:07 EST, Friday November 26
TF2 Center has posted three new interviews that they conducted with Robin Walker, Gabe Newell and John Cook. Here's a snip from the Robin Walker interview:
Q: How realistic will the damage system be? (ie: hit locations, one-shot-kills, etc.).
A: Valve is not going all out on the realism factor -- they will make the game realistic only if it adds to the gameplay. For example, if you shoot a guy in the leg, he might limp away, but the player himself isn't actually affected, because it isn't much fun to move at a crawl, to bleed to death, or to get killed by one lucky shot to the head.

Roller Coaster Tycoon review...
Posted by Ceglarski 15:31 EST, Thursday November 25
Sniper's Alley has reviewed Roller Coaster Tycoon. Here's a little snip:
"This game seems to me to be a lot like Theme Park only better! Not only can
you place the roller coaster wherever you want to but you can build it step
by step in your own unique design. You can have loops, s-bends, boosters,
rises, dips, photo points then end it in a steep slope and make it fly
backwards if you want."

TAOW: Nihon enhancement pack...
Posted by Ceglarski 11:25 EST, Thursday November 25
Mother.May.I has put up some information about an ehancement pack that is planned to ve released sometime, late next week. Here's the scoop:
Team TAOW is hard at work on the first Enhancement Pack for Nihon. At this point, we are shooting for release by end of next week, although that is by no means set in stone. This Enhancement Pack is going to be indicative of all future Enhancement Packs in that it isn't a mandatory download -- people that don't download it will still be able to play with those that do.
Nihon: Enhancement Pack #1 will consist of several minor but desired changes such as bloody weapons slashes, interface enhancements, additional sounds, etc.
Update Packs are going to be the patches that significantly change many parts of Nihon such as the inclusion of maps, new classes, new weapons, etc. and will absolutely be required downloading by everyone. Look for such a pack in the not too distant future.
For more info go over to MMI.
