About glObs

Aim
glObs aims to be a software package that allows people with little or no programming experience to create 3D applications and games. Using the simple, easy-to-understand concepts of static "level" polygons/objects and non-static "character" objects, glObs programs should be easy to construct and make it an easy to use Rapid Application Development (RAD) system.

Of course, we're not there yet

Currently (15/02/2000) glObs is under heavy construction. Whilst both static and non-static objects can be loaded and manipulated, the tools for creating them and molding them into something useful do not exist. Whilst every endeavour has been made to make the use of the current ASCII GLM format as easy as possible, the complete beginner would feel quite lost developing any kind of 3D world.

Looking at the demos, you can see that it is possible to create at least simple worlds. This screenshot demonstrates this. Much work still needs to be done to ease the creation of more complex worlds and game feature integration, such as physics and AI
However, I feel that much work needs to go to the integration and consistency of level design before his program can truly achieve its purpose. Such work will not come for some time, as currently much work is being put into the back end, such as the OTHSR System (OctTree Hidden Surface Removal) to make sure that games and applications created with glObs are the best they can possibly be.

If you are interested in developing GUIs to simplify level creation/model integration, please contact me
