Sport Packs

MadCatz comes up with an odd batch of Rumble Paks targeted squarely at sports fans.

December 10, 1998

With more and more "rumbling" devices hitting the market, it's getting tougher for companies to make a rumble pak that truly stands out for the rest.

"Being unique" seems to have definitely been the starting point for MadCatz' latest line of rumblers/memory paks, not surprisingly called the Sport Packs

Selling at around $20 bucks, the rumble/memory pak hybrids plug into the N64's controller pak slot and do just what Nintendo's standard Rumble Pak is supposed to do: vibrate. The only difference, the Sport Packs are in the shapes of balls.

You will find four variations:

  • The Baseball Pack
  • The Basketball Pack
  • The Soccerball Pack
  • The Football Pack

Each rumbler features two different vibrations settings and a built-in memory pak. Like most third-party memory paks, the memory cards use data compression which makes them more susceptible to data loss, so it's up to you to decide if you want to take that risk. The rumble worked fine, however.

Recommended only for sports fans who don't mind their controllers weighing a little more than usual (hey, it builds muscles!)...
