  • Dover Pacific Computing Inc. on March 1 will ship an upgrade to its software for managing orders that customers enter on Web sites. The upgrade will add features for personalizing sales messages that Web sites present to users.

Orders of Magnitude 2.1 recommends products based on users' past purchases and, if they're buying on behalf of a company, on what they're authorized to buy. The goal is to make sales messages more effective, says Tom Hennings, president and CEO of Dover Pacific.

Companies can set up special pricing configurations in Orders of Magnitude 2.1, and can configure it to personalize fulfillment; for example, orders from customers who buy the most products will ship first.

Chapters Internet, a division of Canada's largest book chain, Chapters Inc., has used Orders of Magnitude since October on its Internet bookstore. The application generates an electronic file for every item ordered on the site and passes it to Radio Beacon, an inventory-management system from Data Technology Software Integration Ltd., says Nick Jones, Chapters Internet's general manager.

Orders of Magnitude 2.1 runs on Windows NT Server or Unix, and works with any database that supports the Open Database Connectivity interface. Client software runs on NT Workstation. Pricing for typical installations ranges from $100,000 to $200,000.
