Oxygent is an intravascular oxygen carrier ("blood substitute") designed to temporarily augment oxygen
delivery in patients at risk of acute tissue oxygen deficit due to either transient anemia, blood loss, or
ischemia (inadequate oxygenation resulting from blood flow abnormalities). Oxygent is compatible with all blood
types, has a shelf-life of up to two years, is sterilized, and is produced in Alliance's commercial-scale
manufacturing facility using an economical, efficient, proprietary process. Phase 3 clinical (human) studies have
been completed in Europe and are ongoing in the U.S.

Lightweight optoelectronic systems built around advanced image sensors and display panels have been proposed for
making selected objects appear nearly transparent and thus effectively invisible. These systems are denoted
"adaptive camouflage" because unlike traditional camouflage, they would generate displays that would change in
response to changing scenes and lighting conditions.

Despite recent advances, most of the existing rapid prototyping processes are quite expensive and many of them generate substances such as smoke, dust, hazardous chemicals, etc., which are harmful to human health and the environment.
Researchers at the University of Missouri-Rolla have developed an experimental rapid freeze prototyping system for building three-dimensional parts out of ice.

Living systems can be used to produce microscopically small components of uniform size that potentially can be used to build electronic devices, according to researchers at The University of Texas at Austin.
"Viruses were chosen by whatever material they naturally 'stuck' to the best and, consequently, only tend to 'stick' to that particular material. We used evolutionary tools to select proteins that can control these technologically important materials, with the goal of building next-generation devices"

COLOUR displays that can be made using a simple "printing" process will provide
ultra-cheap video screens for the next generation of cellphones and palmtops, say British
researchers.
A polymer called PPV will emit light when a voltage is applied to them.
Because PPV molecules contain benzene rings,
which allow electrons to move through the molecule, the
polymer can act as a semiconductor--and form the basis of
a light-emitting diode.
