I just posted many of the How-To documents from the Linux Documentation Project
Well I finally decided to take down the Tux (aka Mother, aka DarkCity) a while ago. My hack job of making crontabs do what a stupid cgi script can do just as well finally became blaringly evident to me, and I got off my rather lazy butt and did something about it :)Untill I get a frame relay, or some other form of transportation, I don't count on Tux arriving once again any time soon...
I am working on an update to the newbie section including how to install linux if you are running windows, because at last I got my modem to work (it was that Plug and Play), and I must add the linux TCP/IP stack is faster than the windows one. Stay tuned :)
If anybody knows me, they know I have a backup plan :) DarkCity has been reborn, this time in the form of a mild mannered server known as Tux, availible at tux.dyn.tj Not quite as fancy and keen as the old system, but hey, it works... for now...
We'll the provider for my server has just gone out business and closed my account... without telling me... heh. How lovely... in the meantime I'm going to try and rig up another way to get access (I have my ways :) Thus for the moment, news updates are halted and some CGI scripts hosts on that server are going to be dead.
I'm going to start working harder on the file bin area for new apps. I'd also apreciate it if people would start submitting more. I've got quite a few submissions in the last few months from companies offering services... which leads me to believe that many of you may be missing the point. This database is for GNU FREE *software*, not services. This area is not intended for free advertising, if you wanna advertise on my site e-mail me and perhaps we can arange something, but this area ain't the place. But if you know of, or develop a software package such as BitchX or emacs, then by all means... POST IT!
Woohoo... check out the Squirrel Nut Zippers video for "The Ghost of Stephen Foster" on Rock.com, animated by the same guys that do the Simpsons! Okay this has nothing to do with Linux, but it's cool :)
Drat... foiled again... The Geek-Gal web site has moved, and changed around the archives. So what does that mean? Well, it means that sed 's/href="/old?u=http%3A%2F%2Flinuxbin.com%2Fhref%3D&y=1999"\http:\/\/www.geek-girl.com\/bugtraq\/1999_2\//g' $FILE doesn't work anymore... :PWhen I get around to redoing my parse scripts, or when they decide to post a handy dandy ultramode file, it's news updates will be back up and running...
life is a precious thing to waste, so i've always said if your going to do it, do it in style! i've just reg'd a channel on ChatNet called #linuxbin. right now it's just a few of us idling there 24/7 for kicks, so come on down and entertain us with mindless conversation. :) i'll post a page devoted to the channel when i get around to it. if anybody happens to be an irc nut, you'll also find me on #bytes&bits, and drebel and I in #circus... figure i'll stick as many plugs in here as possible since i've already done too many already...
Just made up a new news script to make life easy on me and other webmasters here to update this page. Also Drebel wanted me to add (cause he's too lazy to do it himself) that he'll be going on vacation and updating the Newbies page soon... or else I'll severly hurt him...
