| I started this Linux thing last week. I pretty happy with myself until I got to XFree86. I want to install a new window manager, so I downloaded the deb packages for AfterStep and all the recommended packages (like libjpeg)
I installed them all but Afterstep won't start. I get this error:
Afterstep: error in loading shared library: libjpeg.so.62 : cannot open shared object file: no such file or directorty exists.
I followed the directions exactly when installing the jpeg package (I had to because I have no idea what the steps mean).
Trying to work around the problem, I downloaded and installed KDE - I got similar errors, but with a whole ton of libraries.
Can someone tell me what these xxxxx.so.62 files are, and how I get them where they are supposed to be?
The big irony of all this is that until I got into this Linux thin, I considered myself something of an expert on computers.
Thanks,
