Linux System Labs was established in April of 1993 when we started shipping copies of SLS (that's Soft Landing Systems) on floppy disks, CD ROM's and reselling Yggdrasil. We had placed ads in UNIX publications, such as Unix Review, C Users Journal and Open Systems Today. The following month we added Motif from Metrolink to our line of products.
In April, 1994, feeling the need for printed documentation LSL published its first book "The Linux Documentation Project". The book contained all the LDP manuals. In addition, we also published the first edition of "The Linux Bible". Shortly after, LSL teamed up with Mike Johnston to produce Slackware Pro, one of the most successful commercial Linux offerings. LSL also published the 600 page book and pressed the CDs for Morse Telco, while doing the majority of production for WGS. Come November, 1994 we published our very first distribution of Linux. It contained Slackware 2.0.1, Flagship, and Motif from Metrolink. We even mastered the CD on Linux.
By June, 1996 we were up to our 3rd edition of "Dr. Linux". It was over 1100 pages of Linux material all developed on a Linux box. October and November of '95 were busy months. In cooperation with Redhat we published "The TCL & TK Manual", more than 600 pages of TCL & TK reference. We also published a singe CD containing both Slackware 3.0 and Redhat 2.0. Shortly after we went to press with one of our most popular books to date "Linux Man" aka "Linux(1)"
By the first of 1996 we had published numerous CDs for SSC and others. April, 1996 took a great turn, Posix certification. We published Linux-FT in cooperation with Lasermoon Ltd, and Unifix Software GmbH. In May of '96 a joint effort between WGS, Redhat, Walnut Creek, and LSL, would produce our 10th Linux publication, "Dr. Linux 4th Edition". The second generation of Posix proved that Linux could hang with the big guys. Unifix Linux System 2.0 was released in November of 1996, in cooperation with Unifix of Germany.
