I check the Magic & Illusion Forum regularly. The Magic & Illusion Forum is a great resource to talk to others who are also interested in Magic. In fact, we frequently have experts in many areas who visit our Forum!

Email Your Guide

Like all the Guides at About.com, I'm a real person and I will answer your email — usually on the same day. You can email me at magic.guide@about.com. Before you send me some, though, please read through the FAQ List below:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General Questions

Q. "What is the best magic book (or video or ...)?"

A. This is always a tough one to answer since the answer is always so subjective. The best way to ask a question at Magic & Illusion is to be less general, such as, "What is the best way for me to learn coin magic?"

Q. 'I am a beginner in magic... how do I get started?"

A.
Doug Atkinson and I (mostly Doug) wrote a wonderful article for Magic & Illusion called A Beginner's Guide to Magic. It's a great way to start your journey in the Art of Magic.

Also, please go through this site, Magic & Illusion, where you'll find dozens of articles and places to learn magic, get advice, etc.

Q. "Are there any magic chats around?"

A. At Magic & Illusion,
we have a nightly Magic Chat at 8:30 PM Eastern Time (5:30 PM Pacific, 1:30 GMT). On Tuesday evenings, I host the Weekly Magic Chat during the same times. The direct link to the Chat Area is here.

We also now have a Day Chat, for those of you who want to chat during work hours!

Q. "Are there any good magic dealers on the web?"

A. Yes... quite a few! You can find many good ones at Magic & Illusion "Where to Buy Magic" section. I refer to it quite often myself!

Q. "How do I make flash paper?"

A. You don't. Ever. You buy it for ten bucks and you stay alive.

Secrets — The Integrity of Magic

Q. "What is the secret to doing the [insert magic trick here]?"

A. I understand that this is a magic site and it's tempting to ask for the secrets to certain effects, but Magic & Illusion is not a clearinghouse for secrets. To find out a certain trick's secret, my advice is to buy the trick from your favorite magic dealer.

Q. "I found a site that I need to enter a password to get in. Who is the guy who fooled Houdini?" (Or similar questions.)

A. I am sorry, but we cannot give out passwords for protected sites.
