NFL Insider magazine, new this season from NFL Properties, Inc., and Emap Petersen Publishing, takes pro football fans behind the scenes and into the locker rooms of the National Football League's 31 teams.

Beginning with the Preview Issue (on newsstands August 31), readers can enjoy a 180-page periodical devoted entirely to pro football, filled with sizzling action photographs, insightful feature stories, inside perspectives from players and coaches, and unique analytical angles.

The Preview Issue, featuring the Denver Broncos' Terrell Davis on the cover, includes a detailed look at why the great running back excels, a special report on the brightest young receivers in the NFL, a behind-the-scenes report on the rebirth of the Cleveland Browns, the compelling story of Dan Reeves's return from open-heart surgery, and much more.

Among the regular features in the new magazine are the side-by-side perspectives of Boomer Esiason and Matt Millen, two NFL-stars-turned broadcasters, who present often-contrasting opinions.

NFL Insider will return in January with its Premiere Issue, a special Super Bowl edition, with which it begins an eight-times-a-year publishing cycle.

1999 NFL Insider Player Spotlights

• Antonio Freeman
The Packers wide receiver has the stats to prove he makes big plays. What you didn't see in his Pro Bowl numbers is a fearlessness to go over the middle.

• Charles Woodson
The Raiders cornerback may have been a rookie in 1998, but he sure didn't play like one in earning a trip to the Pro Bowl.

• Bruce Matthews
Contrary to popular belief, the Titans offensive lineman didn't enter the NFL wearing a leather helmet. It only seems the 17-year veteran has played that long.

• Steve Beuerlein
While his opportunities have been limited over his 13-year career, the Panthers quarterback has been ready to go whenever his number is called.

• Keyshawn Johnson
When the Jets wide receiver entered the NFL, critics said he had an attitude problem. Now the former No. 1 pick just wants to give the Big Apple a damn title.

• Ray Buchanan
The Falcons cornerback has the game and the name. Now "Big Play Ray" is recognized as one of the NFL's premier cover men.

• Fred Taylor
When asked what makes the Jaguars running back special, coach Tom Coughlin doesn't hesitate to praise his super sophomore. "He has very rare gifts," Coughlin said.

• Peyton Manning
If his rookie season was a test, then the Colts quarterback easily earned a passing grade. "I felt as long as I kept working hard, sooner or later, good things would start to happen for me," he said.
