So what is Objirc Chat? Basically, it is a chat
application. Specifically it sports a full implementation of the IRC protocol.
Like all good IRC applications (such as mIRC) you can chat with any one of the thousands of users connected to the IRC network right now. You can talk in a room of people with like-minded interests. You can even swap files with other people (faster than you'd believe!).
Objirc Chat also has many features not found in other IRC applications. Best of all it runs on all Java enabled platforms: Windows 95, 98, NT, all Unix platforms (Linux, HP, SunOS, Solaris) and the Mac. Objirc Chat is also very easy to use (just enter you nickname and Objirc Chat automatically connects you to an IRC server and joins a room for you).
It offers a powerful and fast room searching function to help you find like-minded friends. It offers a complete Get Info command to help you get to know your conversation partners a little better. It even lets you change the look and feel of the user interface (from native as shown below, to Windows or Motif).
Objirc Chat 3 introduced the "Favorties" folder for you to bookmark your friends and the rooms you frequent. It also has a Startup folder to allow you to auto-join your favorite rooms.
Objirc Chat 4 beta 1 introduces scripting using the Python language (http://www.jpython.com) and Java. The addin architecture means other languages can be added as demand dictates (any TCL fans out there?)
