Intensor

Feel your games simply by sitting on your butt.

October 20, 1998

So, the Dual Shock rumble just isn't immersive enough for you, eh? Well BSG Laboratories has the item for you. The Intensor, a massive clam-shell of a chair that has speakers built into it so you can feel every thump of every explosion or every beat from a drum in the games you play.

Here's how it works: You sit down on the padded seat. You plug your game system (or CD, DVD, or amplifier system) into the power-box, and the power-box plugs into the chair. The two knobs that are positioned conveniently between your legs adjust the volume and the intensity of the force that thumps at your back and seat.

It really does make a difference to your gaming experience. Depending on the source of the sound, you'll feel all the explosions and bass effects rumble through your body. The chair can get extremely loud without you really noticing it – case in point: after a night-time session of Gran Turismo with the Intensor Chair, I received a visit from my downstairs neighbor complaining about the thumping coming through my floor.

What's neat about the chair is that you can sit on it pretty much anywhere. The way it's constructed, you can sit down and lean back into it without worrying about rolling off of it – sit on the floor, on a couch, or on a bed. But if you need more support, you can purchase the optional Chair Base that makes it operate much like an office chair, complete with arm rests. And though it doesn’t look it, the Intensor is pretty comfortable for hour-at-a-time gaming sessions.

The Intensor is a neat peripheral, but it's very costly. The cheapest package runs almost $300, but if you can afford it, the Intensor is certainly worth a look. Just make sure you've got nice neighbors.
