A very scenic shot of one city that will ship with SC3000, Big Mountain City. Here you can see the graphics improvement from SC2000, with smoother terrain and a much better overall look.

Wednesday, December 30, 1998

Here's an unfortunate shot of a city having to face one of SimCity 3000's disasters: fire. Hopefully this city has enough fire coverage to stop the flames before it's too late!

Monday, December 28, 1998

Here's a nice zoomed out shot of a SimCity next to a river. This city is Santa Andrea, created by Jeff Feil of Maxis, and will be included with the final version of SC3000.

Thursday, December 24, 1998

The final screen shot from the old SimCity.com. The next will be from the new version of Maxis' site, if they continue supplying the shots. Anyways, this is another colourful look at a SC3000 city, with many interesting buildings in view.

Monday, December 21, 1998

Our final look at Suneel Ratan's city, Metropolis. In this bright and colourful shot you can see the Tokyo Tower and the Bank of China from Hong Kong.

Thursday, December 17, 1998

A zoomed out shot of Suneel Ratan's creation, Metropolis, which is still growing. On the lower edge is one of his patented water tower forests, which is his way of placing the cities water supply.

Tuesday, December 15, 1998

Our first look at the city of Tamekila, which has a population of 407,678, created by Darren Futa of Maxis. This shot shows a peninsula in a suburb of Tamekila. Medium commercial is on the inside, and light and medium residential is on the outside.

Friday, December 11, 1998

Here's a picture taken of a river, which showcases a marina, a boat, and an interesting plane in the sky, along with some industrial or commercial buildings in the background. You can see on the shoreline as the terrain fades from green to a sandy colour, to create a cool effect.

Thursday, December 10, 1998

Today's shot is of a cool archipalego city, which is shaped like the Maxis logo. Created by one of the SimCity 3000 assistant producers, who says, "And it even has positive cash flow!".

Tuesday, December 8, 1998

An underground view of a subway system. As you can see, when you're in underground mode, some of the subway tunnels cut away to show the subway cars in action, a cool improvement over SC2000. You will also be able to connect your railway lines to your subway to produce a better transportation system in your cities.

Friday, December 4, 1998

Today's screenshot is another view of a city made by Suneel Ratan. Many very nice looking buildings are visible in this shot, as well as a baseball diamond in the lower-left corner, and "Sims" on the sidewalks next to the roads. Next week we will see shots of Darren Futa's city, Tamekila.

Thursday, December 3, 1998

Today's screenshot is another view of Suneel Ratan's city, Metropolis, now with 312,000 Sims. This is a shot of downtown -- the highest value high-density commercial zones, which thus have skyscrapers -- at zoom level 3.

Wednesday, December 2, 1998

Today's screenshot is of a city created by Suneel Ratan of Maxis, which is called Metropolis, currently at 277,000 people and still growing strong. It is called Metropolis because he likse to build his cities BIG.

Wednesday, October 28, 1998

Today's picture is a nice, simple shot of a few buildings from SC3000. Appartments are to the bottom and right sides, with a few more interesting structures in the opposite corner. This shot really shows off how much the graphics have improved since SC2000.

Thursday, October 22, 1998

Maxis' latest screenshot is a crisp shot of an industrial area in SimCity 3000. If you look at the small details, such as the cars on the streets, and Sims on the sidewalks, the view really begins to come to life.

Wednesday, October 14, 1998

Today Maxis gives us a look at a cool, zoomed in screen shot of a farm. The farm includes a couple different types of fields, a few different structures, trees, and even a tractor driving on the nearby road.

Friday, October 9, 1998

Today's picture is of five wind power plants, all located in the background behind some trees, on rough terrain. What really caught my eye however, was the cool-looking building up-front, not sure exactly what it is, but it looks very realistic and detailed.

Wednesday, October 7, 1998

Here's a cool looking picture of a fusion power plant! Obviously this is meant to look a bit more futuristic than most other plants, but looks great! To the left you'll see what is probably a town hall, to the right is a water tower, and above is a residential area (complete with cars on the streets, and Sims on the sidewalks!)

Monday, October 5, 1998

Today Maxis brings us a cool new picture of a solar power plant, which is located on hilly, grass-covered terrain (which by the way, looks a lot better than that of SC2000, from looking at this pic). Lots of trees, and a pair of water towers are also visible, along with a farm located in the background.

Friday, October 2, 1998

The second picture from the power plant series is a cool looking nuclear plant. Other buildings are also visible, and there is a small hill on the grass and dirt terrain (though I would like it if Maxis showed us a couple pictures with more hills).

Thursday, October 1, 1998

Over the next few days, the picture of the day will be focusing on showing artwork of the different types of power plants in SC3000. The first in the series is a coal power plant. You can see power lines in this picture, but in the game, if a new zone is within four tiles of another zone that already has power, you will no longer have to string them manually.

Wednesday, September 30, 1998

Finally, after over a week, our Picture of the Day is finally back! Today's picture is of what looks like a coastline, next to a town. Three different types of ships are visible, along with a marina at the bottom-left. Trees, two types of terrain, and a few interesting buildings are also in sight.

Monday, September 21, 1998

Today's picture is a lighthouse on a coastline, with a sailboat nearby. Different types of trees are visible on the terrain, along with a beach between the grass and water. The grid is very visible in this view, though you will be able to disable it from showing up if you choose.

Friday, September 18, 1998

Here's some nice looking museum artwork. The tall entranceway, wide walkway, old-fashioned roof, statue, and skylights add a lot to the picture, making it look just perfect for it's use.

Tuesday, September 15, 1998

Here's a great look at the farm's of SimCity 3000, complete with multipe structures, fields, tractors, silos and more! In this picture multiple types of crops are not visible, though could possible be included in the actual game.

Monday, September 14, 1998

A great look at some structures that resemble the parliment buildings in Ottawa, Canada. I am assuming that these buildings may be the default buildings used for the government in SC3000. The area the structures are built on is very scenic, with green grass, and lots of trees, along with pathways and all the related buildings.

Friday, September 11, 1998

Here's something new, our first ever look at the underground layer of SimCity 3000. The pipes are obvious, and more realistically looking than those in SC2000, and all water/piping-related buildings will also be visible when looking at the underground view, along with different zoning depths and landscape features. Subways should also be included with the final product.

Thursday, September 10, 1998

Straight from St. Louis Missouri, the Gateway arch, complete with realistic grass and shadows at it's base. I am still curious to find out how some of these landmarks will look when in an actual city, and whether or not they will have any effect at all on the surrounding areas.

Wednesday, September 9, 1998

Today's picture brings us some great artwork from the city of angels, Los Angeles. The terrain looks very realistic, though it is unfortunate that Maxis could not make it more in proportion to the buildings, though for obvious reasons this would not be too easy to do.

Tuesday, September 8, 1998

The Opera Garnier, from Paris, is by far the most detailed building I have seen from SC3000. If you zoom in the detail becomes even more apparent, with each window, object, and roof rendered as close to realism as possible.

Friday, September 4, 1998

The Alamo, from San Antonio, Texas it today's artwork release by Maxis. This picture really does show how much the graphics have improved over SC2000.. just picture a building like this in SC2k, it would be low-res and only 256 colours.

Thursday, September 3, 1998

The Syphnx and Great Pyramids from Egypt... now there's something I was not expecting in SC3000! As you can see in the picture, both objects look great... this makes me wonder if there will be different types of terrain in SC3000 (such as a sandy desert for an area like this, or grass hills for cities based in another area of the world).

Wesnesday, September 2, 1998

Today's picture if the first of a series of landmark buildings that Maxis will be releasing during the next few days. They have decided to began with the Tower of London, featured to the left.

Tuesday, September 1, 1998

Here you see just one of the new features of SC3000, your advisors will specificly let you know what things need improving in your city, such as in this picture, a complaint about a toxic waste dump and it's negative effects.

Monday, August 31, 1998

In this picture you can see a freight train about to enter a tunnel that's going through a hill. The landscape is covered with multiple types of trees, and a lake is to the right. Also, if you look closely you can see a section of an intersection between the tracks.

Thursday, August 28, 1998

Our first look at an airport in SC3000. Runways, helicopter landings, planes, and control towers are noticable after a quick glance. It is obviously more realistic than those from SC2000, especially the main terminal buildings.

Thursday, August 27, 1998

A UFO is attacking the town's city hall! Hope the city's prepared for a disaster like this one.

Wednesday, August 26, 1998

A nice shot of a seaport in SC3000, along with a bridge, and a variety of boats!

Oh no! A fire! A nice quick look at this particular disaster...

Thursday, August 20, 1998

A junkyard, complete with an animated crane that will actually move and pick up the old cars!

Wednesday, August 19, 1998

It's the carnival! Includes all the common rides, and games to play!

Monday, August 17, 1998

Highways! There's something most of us have been waiting for, and guess what? Maxis has listen to us and added this feature to the game!
