It's the old divide and conquer storyline, as the JSA are the ones being divided. With half the team off to stop Extant in the future, the other half are stuck battling Kobra (one of the most under and misused villains in my opinion) as he attempts to fry the earth with a couple hundred laser beam satellites. To make matters worse, Kobra's just fried Sandman on international TV, and he's got Air Wave trapped in his "secret lair."
Of course, the best laid plans of mice and Dr. Evil clones oft go awry, and the JSA find a way to put a damper on Kobra's Machiavellian designs. As he's trying to escape to fight again another day, Kobra is met by a very pissed off, very big Atom Smasher, who uses Kobra as one of those "Martian popping eye doll" stress toys.
All in all, this was a fun yarn that helped to tie up this storyline and move the JSA towards the next big battle against Extant. In addition, it features our old friend Dr. Bones and his DEO friends, which always makes for a good comic (even if he's only on one page). Well written and with great art throughout.

When you make a comic about a bunch of old superheroes, you've got to realize one thing: unless it's the Flash or Green Lantern, no one cares. A superhero old homes week is fine for a guest spot, but when you've got an ensemble comic, you've got to remember that just about everybody today doesn't know these characters very well. So when Goyer & Robinson spend an entire issue with Hourman and Sand, I couldn't have been less excited.
Sand Hawkins, sidekick of the original Sandman, has basically turned into the DC equivalent of Spider-Man villain, The Sandman. He can now turn into sand and phase through silicate matter. He can also sense geological disturbances in the Earth. The entire issue is spent on his change from normal human being into super-sand creature, which is fine if you were a huge fan of this guy, but when you have to set up his adjustment with a knock-down villain like Geomancer, you wish they spent more time on Jay Garrick or Alan Scott instead.
