Avengers Assemble...Again

Issue #27 will introduce yet another new line-up.

November 3, 1999

Get ready for yet another roster change on Avengers -- Marvel's YourMan@Marvel column revealed yesterday that Avengers #27 (due out February) will introduce us to a brand new team.

"Of the Avengers who assemble at the beginning of this issue, only two will remain on the squad!" reported the column. Writer Kurt Busiek described the new line-up to AnotherUniverse.com's Newsarama: "It'll be a pretty normal-sized line-up; not larger than usual, not real small. As for the members, I'll say this: We'll have some members holding over from the past, and some who haven't. Make of that what you will!" Uh...well, that's so vague, we can't make much at all of it.

But what of fans who have become attached to the team's current line-up? "I think Avengers readers are for the most part used to the line-up changing," said Busiek. "It's an Avengers tradition -- and those who haven't been around long enough to see it happen can get into that tradition somewhat in the reprint stories that back up the main story; there are two line-up change stories reprinted there." Ah, yes -- Avengers #27 is also part of Marvel's new 100-Page Monsters books. In addition to the regular story, this format features reprints of key issues and stories from that title. Well...we suppose we'd rather read through yet another line-up change than watch that cheesy new Avengers TV show any day.

So who do you think makes the cut for the new line-up? Ask a question about this story or send us your opinion on it, and be sure to check in later for the responses!
