ISSUE #375: I am Not Now, Nor Have I Ever Been

REVIEW: Could it be the X-Men storyline's about to become coherent again? Just when you thought Wolverine couldn't suck any more and Professor X was having a nervous breakdown, Wolverine dies and all the X-Men kill each other. How's that for an anniversary issue? Just as Wolverine's death brings the scattered X-Men together again, Professor X's insanity tears them apart. Shortly thereafter, long-simmering tensions go full boil, and those loyal to Xavier and those against him duke it out to the bitter end. This being the X-Men, of course, nobody really stays dead, but unlike the last few issues, it's nice to see all the characters put everything on the line in a serious manner, even if the end result is something totally different. Without giving too much away, it resolves a few more dangling story threads in a decent manner, sets up Wolverine's re-adamantiuming this month, and pushes the entire mutant line closer to the Gathering of the Twelve. Alan Davis still can't resist throwing in yet more conspiracies, but this is probably one of the most coherent issues in recent times.
