I could buy a really nice watch with that extra cash.
TV: Mulder's New Conspiracy

Duchovny sues 20th Century Fox.

August 18, 1999

Seems that Fox Mulder is sniffing out conspiracies of a different sort.

X-Files star David Duchovny filed a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox last week alleging that the company has cheated him out of millions of dollars in profits. The suit suggests that Fox sold various rights to The X-Files to its own companies at reduced prices, thereby decreasing profits. Duchovny is reportedly looking to score $25 million in damages and a ride back to the top secret space colony the government has kept hidden from the American people for the past fifty years (kidding).

Duchovny also alleges that X-Files creator Chris Carter may have known about these dealings, but kept quiet about them in exchange for money and a deal for a new TV series. Carter is not named in the suit, but all this talk of secrets and lies sounds like fodder for at least a few episodes of any one of his shows.

It's not exactly a secret that Duchovny's sick of playing paranoid every week. Is he trying to finagle his way out of the last year on his contract? Maybe, but he has expressed interest in continuing on as Mulder in the X-Files movies, so bridge-burning doesn't seem to be a real smooth move on his part. Our pal Mulder, however, would no doubt approve.

What do you think? Is Duchovny just trying to get out of that last year as Mulder? E-mail us at letters@dailysci-fi.com and give us your two cents.
