Babylon 5, X-Files Masterminds Collaborate?
Rumor has it that J. Michael Straczynski and Chris Carter are developing a new drama for CBS.
November 22, 1999
Could it be that two of the most respected figures in modern genre television are collaborating on a new show? In a word: maybe.
According to Sci-Fi Wire, a recent report in Cleveland Plain Dealer mentioned that a new drama for CBS is being developed by none other than J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) and Chris Carter (The X-Files). When Sci-Fi Wire e-mailed Straczynski for comment, he merely responded: "There's nothing that I can say about this at this time, but I will be able to say a little more in about a week...all I can say for now is that it is and it isn't what it seems."
Now, normally one might chalk this up to crazy rumor -- one of those wild, wish-it-could-happen stories that we are ever so fond of. However, the astute among you will remember a little something Straczynski told Cinescape back in August:
"I have a new series in development outside the B5 universe with someone who is known to everyone in science fiction as a producer and sometimes director in genre," he said. "I can't say this person's name, but once word gets out who this person is it's going to be pretty cool." A-ha!
Well, if this is true (and we're still holding on to a healthy dose of skepticism, mind you), it certainly is the best news we've heard in quite some time. Maybe it will even help Carter get over Harsh Realm. Stay tuned for more news as we hear it.
What would a show from the minds of Carter and Straczynski entail? Ask a question about this story or send us your opinion on it, and be sure to check in later for the responses!
