IBM HTTP Servers include:
The IBM HTTP Servers are

IBM HTTP Server V1.3.6.2 powered by Apache
IBM HTTP Server powered by Apache is based on the Apache
HTTP Server, which is the most popular server on the Web.
This HTTP Server runs on AIX, Solaris, Windows NT and Linux.
IBM has enhanced the Apache-powered HTTP Server.
For example, IBM has added SSL for
secure transactions and offers full support, as it would with any
other IBM product.
Note:
IBM WebSphere Application Server V2.0 (Standard Edition and Advanced Edition)
includes
IBM HTTP Server V1.3.3 powered by Apache, not V1.3.6.2.
If you have WebSphere Application Server V2.0 or V2.02
and want to use the new IBM HTTP Server V1.3.6.2, please
upgrade your WebSphere Application Server to version 2.03 or later.
These features for V1.3.6.2 are improvements over V1.3.3:
- Language Support: On Windows NT and AIX, support for these languages in addition to US English:
- French
- German
- Spanish
- Brazilian Portuguese
- Chinese Simplified
- Chinese Traditional
- Korean
- Japanese
- Italian
- Remote Configuration: a browser-based configuration
tool to allow manipulation of the server configuration via a GUI.
-
SNMP Support: Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a
well established protocol for managing and gathering information about
servers remotely. This new support allows IBM HTTP Server to be managed by SNMP protocol.
-
LDAP: The IBM HTTP Server Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
plugin allows authentication and authorization (which is required when accessing a
protected resource) to be performed by an LDAP server, thereby greatly decreasing
the administrative overhead for maintaining user and group information locally for each webserver.
-
Machine Translation Support: This new function, when used with
an available IBM Machine Translation Engine, enables the IBM HTTP Server to
translate English Web pages into other languages without human intervention. This
permits a Web site visitor to read the page in his native language, effectively broadening
the reach of your Web site. IBM Machine Translation Engines
are included in the WebSphere Application Server 3.0 and include: German,
Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
Additional languages will be available in the future.
-
Fast Response Cache Accelerator for AIX: This feature was first
introduced in IBM HTTP Server 1.3.3 for Windows NT. Now AIX users can also take
advantage of the Cache Accelerator to dramatically improve the performance of the server when serving static pages.
In addition, IBM HTTP Server V1.3.6.2 includes these features:
- Easy installation
- Support for SSL secure connections: The IBM HTTP Server powered by Apache supports
both the SSL version 2 and SSL version 3 protocols. This protocol, implemented
using IBM security libraries, ensures that data transferred between a client and
a server remains private. Once your server has a digital certificate, SSL-enabled browsers
like Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer can communicate securely with your server
using the SSL protocol. The IBM HTTP Server powered by Apache supports client authentication, configurable
cipher specifications, and session ID caching for improving SSL performance on the UNIX platforms.
- Fast Response Cache Accelerator: The Cache Accelerator can dramatically improve the performance of the
HTTP Server powered by Apache when serving static pages, for example, text and image files.
Because the Cache Accelerator cache is automatically loaded during server operation,
you are not required to list the files to be cached in your server configuration file. In addition,
the server will automatically recache changed pages and remove outdated pages from the cache.
The Cache Accelerator provides support for caching on Web servers with single and
multiple TCP/IP adapters.
- NT enhancements: IBM programmers and Apache Group programmers worked together to
improve server operation on the Windows platform.
- Services: IBM makes available customer-defined services, where desired.
- Support: You can enjoy the support you have come to expect from an IBM product.
- Test: After rigorous IBM testing, this product passed the same standards of quality used for all IBM products.
- User assistance: Help information uses the easy-to-navigate design
that is common to all WebSphere products.
IBM HTTP Server for OS/390 and AS/400
IBM HTTP Server is based on award-winning technology (the
same technology used in Lotus Domino Go Webserver).
Currently, IBM provides the IBM HTTP Server as part of
OS/390 and AS/400:
