Accounts Receivable Manager: Breakaway Courier Systems (1996 - 1999)
Quickly moved from being a phone operator to taking charge of the office's Accounts Receivable Department. Issue invoices, answer billing inquiries contact delinquent clients. Tried a multitude of suits in Civil Court. Cut average age of outstanding invoices by 2/3. Created Access databases to identify delinquent clients, transmit bills electronically and automatically process credit card transactions.

Bicycle Messenger: Various Firms (1987 - 1994)
Being on the streets eight hours per day provided insights on improving street quality and reducing DOT capital and expense spending. Worked on means to reduce conflicts between road users. Courteous to rude/upset clients, reliable in all weather and never lost a package.

4th Street Food Co-op (1989 - 2000)

Dry Goods Steward and Operations Manager, 1994-1998. Co-Manager, 1991. Pulled the organization out of debt by implementing strategies for growth and improved operations. Balancing the variety of member and customer needs with the spacial and cash flow limitations of a small store. Delegating responsibilities amongst volunteers.

Boston - New York AIDS Ride (1995)

Unofficial manager of camp based bicycle repair crew. Turned a completely disorganized unit into a highly efficient operation which handled thousands of bikes under tremendous peak loads. Managed and nurtured inexperienced volunteers through hectic conditions and grueling hours.

Transportation Alternatives

City Cyclist and Auto-Free Press (1988 - 1994)
Auto-Free Press Managing Editor, 1993-94 and Layout Editor, 1991-92. Planning/assigning/writing articles, recruiting/overseeing volunteers & performing layout for newsletters with combined circulation of 20,000.

Reconstructions of Broadway, Hudson St, Brooklyn Br and Williamsburg Br (1989 - 1994)
Working with/against Department of Transportation engineers to create acceptable designs: studied bicycle/pedestrian interaction, performed motor vehicle volume/capacity analysis, produced scale drawings of alternatives, created a photographic report of architectural details. Utilized tenacity and attention to detail to successfully lobby the DOT, Art Commission, Landmarks Preservation Commission, Community Boards, the public, store owners and elected officials.

Auto Free Central Park (1990 - 1994)
Researched how cars were removed from Washington Square Park. Found errors in traffic data of NYCDOT's Central Park Drives Alternate Use Study, corrected the data to show that closing the drives would improve traffic flow. Organized strategy, stimulated grass roots lobbying, attended Community Board meetings.

Board Member (1989 - 1993)
Oversaw growth from one part time staffer to four full time employees. Involved in setting strategy, budget creation/oversight, staff management and conflict resolution.

New Jersey Hudson River Waterfront Transportation Corridor (1989 - 1993)
Reviewed plans, data, and Environmental Impact Statements. Revealed flaws in cost/benefit and air quality analyses. Proposed alternatives which were more cost effective, produced larger environmental benefits and better met communities' needs. Lobbied media, local organizations, elected officials, federal/state environmental agencies. Prepared/presented testimony for NJ Transit Board meetings and public hearings.

Bicycle Blueprint (1990 - 1993)
Proposed Transportation Alternatives produce an integrated long range plan to make cycling a mainstream transportation option in NYC. Hired as Research Consultant to create on-line excerpts of legislation, articles and government reports regarding planning/design/construction principles and funding sources. Wrote sections of the document. The Blueprint became a successful catalyst for change in NYC and around the US.

Eco-Fair (1991 - 1992)
Produced two successful environmental street fairs: solicited vendors, learned dBASE, promoted event (design/layout of poster, created radio PSA), oversaw volunteers & day-of operations.

Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (1990 - 1991)
Worked with the administration, elected officials and advocates to ensure this legislation reduces automobile dependence. Read/analyzed/commented on existing/proposed laws. Proposed Efficiency Feebate Apportionment Process, a formula rewarding states that improve transportation sector efficiency while penalizing those which become less efficient. Compiled/computed data for the 50 states, determined which indices are best and provided sample runs of the formula. Generated compromise amendment to strengthen Senate bill's bonus.

Major: Transportation and Public Policy. Completed 16 Credits.
Most significant study: New York City Budget: Trends and Process. Analyzed city transport spending for FY's 1979 through 1995. Learned details of the budgetary process. City DOT Budget Director Bob Miller served as advisor.

New York University (1986 - 1988)
Completed 56 Credits. Fared well in a graduate level neurology course during Sophomore year.
