About Applied Materials in China
Headquartered in Tianjin, Applied Materials China (AMC) was established in 1984. With more than 70 employees, AMC's mission is to be a world-class operation in China and reach the highest level of customer satisfaction.

AMC serves a vast territory, similar in size to the United States. China's population makes it the largest potential market for electronics, computers and telecommunications in the 21st century. Further, in China, unlike in other geographic areas of the world, the semiconductor industry is in the early stages of development. AMC has already established a strong sales and service organization compared with competitors in the Chinese market.

AMC Milestones
1984 Established Applied Materials China Service Center at Beijing.
1994 Established first representative office at Shanghai.
1995 Established Applied Materials China, Ltd. at Hong Kong (AMC).

Established Research & Development Fund at Shanghai to support local development of science and technology.

Installed Precision 7700 Epi Reactor, first installation done completely by local engineers.

1996 First installation of Endura HP PVD system in China, done completely by local engineers.

Opened AMC representative offices at Beijing, Tianjin and Wuxi.

1997 Established Applied Materials China Tianjin Co., Ltd. (AMCT), a subsidiary of AMC.
1998 Consolidated all representative offices to AMCT.
1999 AMC IBSS (installed base support services) engineers successfully started up systems in Huahong-NEC, the first eight-inch fab in China.

AMC IBSS announced as a Top Ten Vendor by Huahong-NEC.

Core Capabilities
AMC has built a dedicated workforce with strong technical skills in diversified semiconductor fabrication systems, a good sense of customer service and learning, and enthusiasm for continuous advancement within the semiconductor industry.

Further, AMC has developed solid support infrastructures at Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Wuxi, including depots and telecommunication capabilities to globally reach Applied Materials sites.

AMC in the Community
As an active contributor to the local community, AMC participates in a variety of community service activities. AMC established the Applied Materials Shanghai Research & Development Fund with the Shanghai Commission of Science and Technology, contributing over $1 million since 1994. The Fund was established to encourage and promote microelectronics and information technology development in universities and research institutes in the People's Republic of China.

Also, in 1998, contributions from the company and its employees were to assist in the relief efforts for flood disaster victims in Northern China and the Yangtze River area. In addition, AMC employees participated in the China HOPE Project by making personal contributions. The Project provides scholarships to ensure students in rural secondary schools can continue their education.
