New Army Men II Tip! - [by Cali Girl]
Silent-Skillz, a Mplayer.com member, has sent us an Army-Men II Tip. Here are the details:

A useful way of using mines is to put mines close together.  If a sarge is walking and accidentally steps over ONE mine, he can easily heal himself.  If the sarge walks over three together it causes a chain reaction increasing the damage by three-fold.  This is also great against up-coming tanks because a group of five mines together will kill the tank before the opponent has time to repair.

We have added the tip to our AM2 Strategy section for future references.

Heroes of M&M III Review - [by Cali Girl]
Not ArmyMen news but it is 3DO Related news, Gameproworld has a review of Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon's Blade. Here is a clip:

Warning: The turn-based tour-de-force known as the Heroes of Might & Magic(HOMM) series is best avoided by gamers without ample free-time. It is insanely addictive. It is bad news for anyone with spousal or child-rearing responsibilities, deadlines, or the need to eat and sleep. And now New World Computing and 3DO have gone and released an expansion pack for the third episode.

Army Men: Air Attack PSX Ships - [by Cali Girl]
The 3DO Company announced the release of the Army Men - Air Attack game for PlayStation[R] game console.  The immensely popular Army Men series now launches into the great blue yonder as helicopters take center stage in a game that evokes fond memories of playing with plastic soldiers.  An all-new hero, the brash young Captain Bill Blade, and his Alpha Wolf Squadron take up the Green Army's cause from the air to sabotage the Tan Army's nefarious plans.

The Army Men - Air Attack game leads players on a ride through six new worlds ranging from a cold mountain fortress in Their World to cheery battles among sandcastles in Our World.  Through 18 missions players may choose from three different co-pilots to help Captain in his crusade to disable the plastic-melting hot iron, extinguish deadly firecrackers, and most importantly, fight the evil Tan nemesis. Missions play homage to classic helicopter game play, and everything in the levels, from weapons and troops to pine cones and snack food, may be manipulated to achieve mission goals, just like playing with toys in your back yard.

Multiplayer options add endless hours of fun. The cooperative mode, in which players combine tactical skills to bring down the Tan menace, is especially suited for players of different skill levels. For example, one player may utilize an arcade action style of play while the other player uses a tactical play style. In Flag Nab-it mode, players face off to infiltrate the other's base.

"This is a game that gets people's imaginations fired up," says Trip Hawkins, chairman and CEO of The 3DO Company. "The Army Men - Air Attack game evokes the magic of playing with toys, using whatever is at hand, whether it's a bottle rocket or a pine cone, to carry on the fantasy, a fantasy everyone seems to love."

System Upgrades... - [by Jeh]
We're currently adding some new servers here at the Xtreme Network. What this means is that, while our technicians work their magic, we're unable to receive any Xtreme Network related email, which includes any emails you may have sent to this site.

Once our hardware additions are complete you should notice that our sites load a little faster, and if you run a hosted site on our servers then you should notice an increase in FTP speed too!

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. We should be back to normal operation sometime today!

BattleTanx: Global Assault (PSX) - [by Cali Girl]
This is more 3DO news in general, the company has announced news about BattleTanx: Global Assault. Here are the details:

The 3DO Company today announced the development of the BattleTanx: Global Assault game for PlayStation game console.  Created from the ground up especially for the hottest gaming platform, the BattleTanx: Global Assault game will feature 40 campaign levels and 30 multiplayer levels, a new city, cool new tanks and weapons, and the powerful story of a father's fierce battle to protect his son.

Its predecessor, the acclaimed best-selling BattleTanx game, took the U.S. by storm with its television ad campaign featuring the luckless Tready bear getting the stuffing knocked out of him by a tank.  Tready's back for more in the new multimillion-dollar marketing campaign for the BattleTanx: Global Assault game. The BattleTanx game spent several weeks at the top of the console sales and rental charts, reaching #3 on the Top 10 Videogame Shooter Titles as reported by MCV, and #15 on the Top 20 Renting Games as reported by GameWEEK.

In the BattleTanx: Global Assault game, players battle or ally with a host of desperate armed gangs in a struggle for survival in post-apocalyptic U.S. and Europe. The game features 13 different tanks, including three entirely new models, and an arsenal of explosive new weaponry for maximum mayhem.  Varied terrain and underground tunnels create opportunities for strategy and deception as players explore the highly detailed, war-savaged landscape in Washington D.C., London, Paris, Berlin and Russia.

The action never lets up with seven modes of play.  Players can experience the engaging storyline through rich cinematics in the single- and two-player campaign modes as they join Griffin Spade in his battle against Cassandra and her obsessive quest to kidnap his child and use his mysterious powers for her own ends.  An impressive variety of multiplayer modes feature no-holds-barred action against a friend and the computer. Even novice players can jump right into the fray in the popular Family Mode.

"The advantages of the PlayStation game console with its great sound and graphic abilities, and the CD format's storage capacity, allow us to create a cool, immersive universe that really gets the player involved in the story," said Trip Hawkins, chairman and CEO of The 3DO Company. "Add to that a host of kick-ass tanks and hardcore action on a massive scale, and you have all the ingredients for a really fun, compelling game.  In making games like BattleTanx: Global Assault for the PlayStation game console we can create an ultimately satisfying experience for the player."
