Slackware 7 + Manual
Includes the official Slackware distribution and the Running and Installing Guide.

The Official Release of Slackware(tm) Linux by Patrick Volkerding is an advanced Linux operating system, designed with the twin goals of ease of use and stability as top priorities. Including the latest popular software while retaining a sense of tradition, providing simplicity and ease of use alongside flexibility and power, Slackware 7.0 brings the best of all worlds to the table.

Originally developed by Linus Torvalds in 1991, the UNIX(tm)-like Linux operating system now benefits from the contributions of millions of users and developers around the world. Slackware Linux provides new and experienced users alike with a full-featured system, equipped to serve in any capacity from desktop workstation to machine-room server. Web, ftp, and email servers are ready to go out of the box, as are a wide selection of popular desktop environments. A full range of development tools, editors, and current libraries is included for users who wish to develop or compile additional software.

The Slackware philosophy demands ease of use, ease of administration, and open development; all are reflected in this carefully built and tested official disc set.

A minimal installation requires only 16 MB of memory (though 32 MB is recommended) and 80 MB of hard drive space. An installation with C/C++, development tools, networking, the XFree86 X Window System (v 3.3.5), and several applications is to be had for under 500 MB.

An installation of the full distribution (requiring 960 MB) includes the K Desktop Environment, Gnome, a selection of window managers, the Netscape and Lynx web browsers, Perl 5, the Apache web server, the Sendmail email server, and a host of other tools, applications, programming languages, and libraries.

Slackware Linux is compatible with most Intel PC hardware and supports most CD-ROM drives, sound cards, ethernet devices, and mice. The Linux kernel on which Slackware is based will perform superbly on high-end systems, with symmetric multi-processing support (up to 16 processors) and special optimizations for each Intel processor class.

This box set includes the 300 page Slack Installation and Getting Started Guide [more info].
