Get connected to the universal serial
bus
When the iMac debuted last summer, some Mac aficionados were
skeptical. With no floppy drive or ports to connect
traditional Mac printers and disk drives, not to mention
goodies like scanners, cameras, and joysticks, surely the
iMac's life would be solitary and short.
Back then, precious few peripherals could be plugged into
the iMac's newfangled universal serial bus (USB) ports. Even
USB products for the PC were rare. But today, in addition to
scores of USB peripherals for the PC, there are dozens for
the iMac, as well as for the Blue and White G3, which also
comes with two USB ports.

The iMac lives up to the hype
When Steve Jobs unveiled the iMac at the Cupertino, Calif.,
Flint Center last May, the first thought I had was, "They're
going to sell a million of 'em." I was thinking of a million
over the life of the iMac, but there's a good chance my
prophecy might come true before the end of the year.
The iMac more than doubled Apple's monthly sales for August,
giving Apple 13.5 percent of all personal computer sales
that month. This is all the more phenomenal when you realize
that the iMac was only on sale for 17 days in August. These
sales have led to a boom in new Mac software and
peripherals, too.
