Year 2000 Edition

Corporate Competitiveness in the
Federal IT Market

Study Status

The survey contractor, Decision Data Collection of McLean, Virginia, has completed 356 total hours of interviews with 1,500 government subscribers of Federal Computer Week. About 46 percent of interviewees are from the Department of Defense, and 54 percent are from at least 25 civil agencies.

Interviewees supplied 116,399 specific ratings of the 102 leading information technology companies covered in this year's study. FCW has completed a preliminary review of these ratings and is in the process of validating results and preparing the study report.

FCW will release the study and present summary results at a breakfast briefing set for March 15, 2000 at the Fairview Park Marriott. Interested parties may pre-order the study report now for delivery upon its release.

This figure illustrates one result from the preliminary review -- measurement of the importance to survey respondents of various sources of information on company past performance. The measurement scale ranges from 1 (not at all important) to 5 (extremely important). Routine contractor performance evaluations from within an agency remain the most important source, followed by special surveys within the agency and third-party data. Contractor evaluations from other agencies and from non-government organizations are least important.
