Royals Blank Tigers to Extend Win Streak to Five - DETROIT (Reuters) - Chris Fussell is making the most of a second chance. Fussell tossed six shutout innings and combined with two relievers on a four-hitter as the Royals shut out the Detroit Tigers, 6-0, Wednesday and swept the rain-shortened two-game series. Sanchez, Kournikova Lose at German Open - BERLIN (Reuters) - Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario suffered a setback in her preparations for the French Open Wednesday while Anna Kournikova was both down and out of the German Open second round. Sanchez-Vicario, finalist in last week's Hamburg Cup, lost 6-4 5-7 6-2 to Russian Elena Dementieva in her second round match on a bad day for the seeds. Red Hot Yankees to Meet Devil Rays - NEW YORK (Reuters) - The red-hot New York Yankees aim for their ninth win in 10 games tonight as they conclude the three-game set with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Paul O'Neill walked on four pitches with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Yankees continued their dominance of the Devil Rays with a 4-3 victory Tuesday. Angels Place Pitcher Ken Hill on Disabled List - ANAHEIM, California (Reuters) - The Anaheim Angels placed right-hander Ken Hill on the disabled list Wednesday after he suffered an injury to the rib cage area while pitching in Tuesday's game. Hill was placed on the 15-day DL with what was initially diagnosed as a strained right intercostal muscle. The hurler will undergo an MRI exam later Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury and how long he might be sidelined. Brown, Johnson Square Off in Marquee Matchup - PHOENIX (Reuters) - Two of the top pitchers in the National League face each other in one of the marquee matchups of the season tonight as the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers finish their three-game series. Randy Johnson (7-0, 0.93 ERA) will look to continue his unbelieveable start for Arizona. He posted his major league-leading fourth complete game of the season with Friday's 5-3 victory over San Diego. He did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and scattered just five in the game with 11 strikeouts, including 10 through the first five frames. Lakers, Pacers Look to Extend Leads in Playoffs - LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The NBA playoffs continue Wednesday with the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers looking to extend their series leads against teams with injury problems in the backcourt. The Lakers host Game Two of their Western Conference semifinal series with the Phoenix Suns. Los Angeles cruised to a 105-77 victory in Sunday's opener behind Shaquille O'Neal, who was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player Tuesday. New Grizzlies Owner Names Management Team - VANCOUVER (Reuters) - Vancouver Grizzlies new owner billionaire Michael Heisley Wednesday named the management team he hopes will turn around the floundering franchise. Heisley, approved last month as Grizzlies owner by the NBA Board of Governors, introduced former Indiana Pacers coach Dick Versace as Vancouver's new president of basketball operations. Lance Armstrong Suffers Concussion - PARIS (Reuters) - Lance Armstrong's build-up to the Tour de France has been interrupted after he suffered a concussion in a fall during practice in the Alps. The American, who crashed as he was practicing for the defense of his title, is resting at home in Nice and will miss next week's Midi Libre. Cubans Train for Sydney Despite Sanction - HAVANA (Reuters) - Cuban boxers continue to train for the Olympic Games in Sydney, despite speculation of a possible boycott in retalation for International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) sanctions against top sports officials.
